Sporting Clube de Porto Novo (Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: ''Sporting Klubi di Purtu Nobu'') is a football club that had played in the Premier division and plays in the Santo Antão Island South Zone Division in Cape Verde. It is based in the island of Santo Antão. The club was founded in 1956 and is the island's oldest sporting club. Geographically it was once the westernmost sporting club in Cape Verde and the whole of Africa, now it is one of several today. Sporting Porto Novo is the second most successful football (soccer) club in the South Zone having won about 5 official regional titles, overall it is fourth with the North Zone's Rosariense Clube with 8 official regional and subregional titles combined. Académico do Aeroporto ( Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: ''Akadémiku du Aeropurtu'') is a football club that had played in the Premier division and plays in the Sal Island League in Cape Verde. It is based in the city of Espargos in the island of Sal. The team was is named after its nearby airport ( Sal International Airport). Its current director is Ivan Lopes since mid-February 2017, its chairman is Carlos Moniz who returned for the second time and its manager was Lúcio Antunes since 2015. Now that Verdun Pedra de Lume was relegated, the club became the island's five unrelegated original clubs. Sport Clube Morabeza is a football club in Cape Verde that plays in the Brava Island Division in Cape Verde. It is based in Nova Sintra the island of Brava and plays at Estádio Aquiles de Oliveira where all the clubs from Brava even those based outside the capital play. The club name's etymology is the name predominantly used in Cape Verde and it is used in other music albums and the hotel in the island of Sal. The 2009 Cape Verdean Football Championship season was the 30th of the competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. Its started on 16 April, earlier than the last season and finished on 11 June. The tournament was organized by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. Sporting would win their 8th title and fourth straight after defeating the city's rival Académica. This was the first final competition that featured two clubs from the same island as well as the same city, it happened the following season with Boavista. Sporting Praia's next and final title would win in 2012. Overview Sporting Clube da Praia was again the defending team of the title. Its started on 12 May and finished on 21 July, earlier than the last season. The tournament was organized by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. Porto Novo Super Cup
The Porto Novo Super Cup, known as the Filipe de Bitú Super Cup (Portuguese: ''Super-Taça de Filipe de Bitú'') is a regional football (soccer) super cup competition played during the season in the southern and westernmost parts of Santo Antão Island, Cape Verde. The super cup is organized by the Santo Antão South Regional Football Association (Associação Regional de Futebol de Zona Sul do Santo Antão, ARFZSSA). The regional champion competes with a regional cup winner. When a club wins both the regional championship and cup for the season, the club competes with a cup finalist. The first edition was held in 2007. Since the 2015 edition, the winner qualifies into the Santo Antão Super Cup, a single island competition.
