Sport Vaasa
Sport, known by its full name as ''Hockey Team Vaasan Sport OY'', is a Finnish ice hockey team playing in Liiga, and is based at Vaasa Arena (capacity 4448) in Vaasa. The team was established in 1939 as IF Sport (Idrottsföreningen Sport). History Vaasan Sport was founded in 1939 as IF Sport. The team was involved in the founding of the Finnish top division Liiga, formerly known as SM-Liiga, in 1975, but was relegated only one year later after the 1975-1976 season. After the relegation, Sport played in the Finnish First Division (since then renamed to Mestis), until they were relegated in 1991-1992 to the Finnish Second Division. Climbing back up to the First division proved to be a tough task and wasn't accomplished until spring 1997, with the game-winning goal of the deciding game against Kiekko-67 being scored by Kari Teräväinen in overtime. Matthieu Andre Jean Marc Luc Descoteaux (born September 23, 1977) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Montreal Canadiens. Playing career As a youth, Descoteaux played in the 1991 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a minor ice hockey team from Francheville, Quebec. Descoteaux was selected in the first round of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, 19th overall, by the Edmonton Oilers. Jukka Pertti Juhani Jalonen (born November 2, 1962 in Riihimäki, Finland) is a Finland, Finnish professional ice hockey coach (sport), coach and former player. Manu Juhani Tamminen (born May 26, 1950) is a Finnish people, Finnish retired professional ice hockey player who played in the SM-liiga and World Hockey Association. He played for TPS (ice hockey), TPS, HJK Helsinki, HJK, HIFK (ice hockey), HIFK, Cleveland Crusaders, and Phoenix Roadrunners (WHA), Phoenix Roadrunners. Vjačeslavs Fanduļs (russian: Вячеслав Викторович Фандуль; born March 17, 1969 in Leningrad, Soviet Union) is a Latvian former professional ice hockey forward. Playing career Fanduļs began his career with RASMS Riga before playing in the Soviet Hockey League for Dinamo Riga and Stars Riga between 1988 and 1992. He then moved to Finland's SM-liiga with spells at Ässät, HPK, TPS, and Kärpät between 1992 and 2001. Fanduļs then moved to Germany's Deutsche Eishockey Liga and signed for the Berlin Capitals. Oskar Osala (born 26 December 1987) is a Finnish former professional ice hockey player. He played in three National Hockey League (NHL) games with the Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes and represented Finland in Olympic Winter Games 2018.
