Sport In Kosovo
Sport in Kosovo has established tradition and plays a prominent role in society. Popular sports in Kosovo include football, basketball, volleyball, handball, and rugby, whereas major individual sports include wrestling, judo, swimming, boxing, karate and skiing. Individual sports have led to Kosovo's biggest successes. Outstanding boxers such as Aziz Salihu, Mehmet Bogujevci, Sami Buzolli, Besim Kabashi. Judokas like Majlinda Kelmendi and Nora Gjakova, Distria Krasniqi have won medals in major international competitions. Some of the federations that are part of the international associations are Kosovo Taekwondo Federation, Boxing Federation, Handball Federation, Judo Federation, and Kosovo Ski Federation. Nevertheless, athletes who were born and raised in European countries had the opportunity to be successful in the international arena. Kosovo
Kosovo ( sq, Kosova or ; sr-Cyrl, Косово ), officially the Republic of Kosovo ( sq, Republika e Kosovës, links=no; sr, Република Косово, Republika Kosovo, links=no), is a partially recognised state in Southeast Europe. Distria Krasniqi
Distria Krasniqi (; born 10 December 1995) is a Kosovar judoka. She received a gold medal in the women's 48-kg judo competition at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. In August 2021, she was awarded the Honor of the Nation Decoration of Albania by the President of Albania. Life and career Krasniqi took up the sport at the age of seven and was encouraged by her brother with whom she practiced the sport. In mid 2018, Krasniqi later switched to the super lightweight category of 48 kilograms from 52 kg event after missing out on qualifying for the 2016 Summer Olympics. As a result, she avoided her fellow Kosovan teammate and 2016 Olympic champion Majlinda Kelmendi in the light weight division, as well as Nora Gjakova, the 2018 European light weight champion in the qualification round for the 2020 Olympic Games. KF Vushtrria is a football club based in Vushtrri, Kosovo. The club was founded in 1922, and currently play their home games at the Ferki Aliu Stadium in the city of Vushtrri which has a capacity of 6,000 supporters.
