Sport
Sport pertains to any form of Competition, competitive physical activity or game that aims to use, maintain, or improve physical ability and Skill, skills while providing enjoyment to participants and, in some cases, entertainment to spectators. Sports can, through casual or organized participation, improve participants' physical health. Hundreds of sports exist, from those between single contestants, through to those with hundreds of simultaneous participants, either in teams or competing as individuals. In certain sports such as racing, many contestants may compete, simultaneously or consecutively, with one winner; in others, the contest (a ''match'') is between two sides, each attempting to exceed the other. Some sports allow a "tie" or "draw", in which there is no single winner; others provide tie-breaking methods to ensure one winner and one loser. A number of contests may be arranged in a tournament producing a champion. Many sports leagues make an annual champion by ar ...

The Sport (Adelaide Newspaper)
''The Sport'' was a newspaper published in Adelaide between April 1911 and October 1948, which apart from articles on racing, football, cricket, and boxing, carried items of general interest, satire and political comment. History ''The Sport'', founded in 1909, advertised itself as the only independently owned sporting newspaper in South Australia. From 1911 (or earlier) it was printed and published by Frederick Joseph Jennings (c. 1882 – 18 November 1948) at Jennings Printing Works, 72 Flinders Street, Adelaide, for the proprietors. Jennings was owner of several noted racehorses: Cadelgo, one of those involved in a triple dead heat at Cheltenham in 1927, and Argosy Boy that ran a dead heat with Anotto in 1919, and paid £301/17/ on the playoff. John Clarence "Clarrie" Neate (1904–1972) served as his trainer and also as caricaturist for the newspaper. In June 1915 it republished a number of articles from the recently revived Adelaide ''Truth''. A sister publication, the ''Nor ...

Sport (tug)
The ''Sport'' was a tugboat, built in 1873 and wrecked in 1920 in Lake Huron. The wreck site, designated 20UH105, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. History In 1873, lumber and steel entrepreneur Eber Brock Ward commissioned Frank E. Kirby to design this tug. The boat was built by the Wyandotte Iron Ship Building Works in Wyandotte, Michigan. The ''Sport'' was the first steel tug on the Great Lakes, and the first vessel made of Bessemer steel in North America. It was designed as a harbor tug, and first used around Wyandotte and the St. Clair River. By 1875, she was assigned to Ludington, Michigan, where Ward owned sawmills. The tug was rebuilt a number of times, and sold to a succession of owners who used it for towing, salvaging and aiding vessels in distress. In 1913, the ''Sport'' was sold a final time to Captain Robert Thompson of Port Huron, Michigan Port Huron is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of St. Clair County ...

Sport (camera)
The "Sport" camera is the series production model of a prototype camera called Gelveta. The Gelveta was designed and built by A. O. Gelgar between 1934 and 1935. It is the earliest known production 35mm SLR camera ever to be built, but fewer than 320 examples were made. The actual launch date of the "Sport" is somewhat uncertain, however it was in series production by 1936 and must undoubtedly be one of the two earliest generally available SLR cameras using the 35mm film format, the other being the German Ihagee Kine Exakta, launched in 1936. It was manufactured by the Soviet camera factory Gosudarstvennyi Optiko-Mekhanicheskii Zavod, The State Optical-Mechanical Factory in Leningrad. GOMZ for short. The camera name is engraved in Cyrillic on the finder housing above the lens: ''„Спорm“''. The manufacturer's prism logo in gold on black with the factory initials ГОМЗ (GOMZ) is shown behind a circular magnifying window on the top left camera front. An estimated number ...

Gregoireplein. In its direct proximity lies the Sportpaleis and the smaller Lotto Arena event halls. Above the station also lies the terminus of tram route 12. Macromutation
Mutationism is one of several alternatives to evolution by natural selection that have existed both before and after the publication of Charles Darwin's 1859 book ''On the Origin of Species''. In the theory, mutation was the source of novelty, creating new forms and new species, potentially instantaneously, in sudden jumps. This was envisaged as driving evolution, which was thought to be limited by the supply of mutations. Before Darwin, biologists commonly believed in saltationism, the possibility of large evolutionary jumps, including immediate speciation. For example, in 1822 Étienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire argued that species could be formed by sudden transformations, or what would later be called macromutation. Darwin opposed saltation, insisting on gradualism in evolution as geology's uniformitarianism. In 1864, Albert von Kölliker revived Geoffroy's theory. In 1901 the geneticist Hugo de Vries gave the name "mutation" to seemingly new forms that suddenly arose in his e ...

Fern Sports
Fern sports are plants that show marked change from the normal type or parent stock as a result of mutation. The term Morphotype is also used for any of a group of different types of individuals of the same species in a population. Fern fronds in sports are typically altered in several ways, such as the frond apex divided and pinnae similarly duplicated. Occurrence Soft Shield Fern ''Polystichum setiferum'', Lady Fern ''Athyrium filix-femina'' and Hart's Tongue Fern ''Asplenium scolopendrium'' are known to have around three hundred varieties or sports.Peter D. Sport (botany)
In botany, a sport or bud sport, traditionally called ''lusus'', is a part of a plant that shows morphological differences from the rest of the plant. Sports may differ by foliage shape or color, flowers, fruit, or branch structure. The cause is generally thought to be a chance genetic mutation. Sports with desirable characteristics are often propagated vegetatively to form new cultivars that retain the characteristics of the new morphology. Such selections are often prone to "reversion", meaning that part or all of the plant reverts to its original form. An example of a bud sport is the nectarine, at least some of which developed as a bud sport from peaches. Other common fruits resulting from a sport mutation are the red Anjou pear, the Ruby Red grapefruit, and the ' Pink Lemonade' lemon, which is a sport of the "Eureka" lemon.
