Spiš-Gemer Karst
The Spiš-Gemer Karst (Slovak: ''Spišsko-gemerský kras'', Hungarian: ''Szepes-gömöri karszt'') is a part (a geomorphological area) in the Slovenské rudohorie Mountains. Slovenské Rudohorie
The Slovak Ore Mountains ( sk, Slovenské rudohorie , hu, Gömör–Szepesi-érchegység, german: Slowakisches Erzgebirge or Zips-Gemer-Erzgebirge) are an extensive mountain range within the Carpathian Mountains, located mostly in Slovakia's Spiš and Gemer region, with a small part in northern Hungary. It is the largest mountain range in Slovakia. Geomorphologically, the Slovak Ore Mountains belong to the Inner Western Carpathians. The mountains are bordered by Zvolen in the west, Košice in the east, the rivers Hron and Hornád in the north, and the ''Juhoslovenská kotlina'' and Košice Basin (''Košická kotlina'') in the south. A national park is a nature park, natural park in use for conservation (ethic), conservation purposes, created and protected by national governments. Slovak Paradise
Slovak Paradise ( sk, Slovenský raj) is a mountain range in eastern Slovakia. It is a part of the Spiš-Gemer Karst, which in turn is a part of the Slovak Ore Mountains, a major subdivision of the Western Carpathians. It is located between the towns of Spišská Nová Ves in the north and Dobšiná in the south. It is particularly known for its gorges and waterfalls. It is very popular with hikers as it has a number of unusual routes through gorges and waterfalls. There are numerous sections where fixed ladders are used to climb. The area is protected by Slovak Paradise National Park (''Národný park Slovenský raj''). Characteristics Slovak Paradise is a plain with high plateaus (800–1000 m AMSL). Muránska Planina
Muránska planina (translated as Muráň Plateau or Muráň Plain) is a plateau-like region in central Slovakia, between Brezno, Červená Skala (part of Šumiac), Muráň and Tisovec. It lies in the Spiš-Gemer Karst, in the Slovenské rudohorie Mountains (part of the Carpathian Mountains#Divisions, Western Carpathian Mountains). Karst
Karst is a topography formed from the dissolution of soluble rocks such as limestone, dolomite, and gypsum. It is characterized by underground drainage systems with sinkholes and caves. It has also been documented for more weathering-resistant rocks, such as quartzite, given the right conditions. Subterranean drainage may limit surface water, with few to no rivers or lakes. However, in regions where the dissolved bedrock is covered (perhaps by debris) or confined by one or more superimposed non-soluble rock strata, distinctive karst features may occur only at subsurface levels and can be totally missing above ground.
