Bill Spivey
William Edwin Spivey (March 19, 1929 – May 8, 1995) was an American basketball player. A center, he played college basketball for the National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) Kentucky Wildcats from 1949 to 1951. After his high school career, Spivey was recruited by the University of Kentucky. During his time with the Wildcats, he led the team to the 1951 NCAA tournament championship, and was voted Most Outstanding Player of the event. When a point shaving scandal was revealed that year, Spivey was accused of being involved, which he denied. He left the Wildcats in December 1951, and the university banned him from the squad in March 1952. After he testified before a grand jury in New York, he was indicted on perjury charges. Although Spivey was not convicted when the case went to trial in 1953, he was prevented from competing in the National Basketball Association (NBA) afterward. Nygel "Nigel" Jonathan Spivey (born 17 October 1958) is a British classicist and academic, specialising in classical art and classical archaeology, archaeology. He is a senior lecturer in classics at the University of Cambridge and a fellow of Emmanuel College, Cambridge, Emmanuel College. He has written extensively on the Etruscans and on the Olympic Games. Spivey's Corner is a census-designated place located in Sampson County, North Carolina, United States, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 13 and U.S. Highway 421. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 448. Every year since 1969, Spivey's Corner has been the home of the National Hollerin' Contest. Spivey Hall was built in 1991 on the campus of Clayton State University in Morrow, Georgia, near Atlanta, Georgia. Its seating capacity is 492 (476 in the orchestra and 16 box seats). It presents jazz and classical music to the metro Atlanta area. Spivey Hall is home to the Spivey Hall Children's Choir and Spivey Hall Young Artists. The Children's Concert Series won the Abby Award for arts education in Atlanta in 1998. The Hall was the inspiration of Emilie Parmalee Spivey and Walter Boone Spivey, a wealthy real estate developer couple in the Atlanta area. Mount Spivey () is a flat-topped, mainly ice-covered mountain, rising to about 2,135 m, standing on the west side of Toynbee Glacier and 9 nautical miles (17 km) south of Mount Nicholas.
