Spit (archaeology)
In the field of archaeology, a spit is a unit of archaeological excavation with an arbitrarily assigned measurement of depth and extent. It is a method of excavation employed without regard to the archaeological stratigraphy that may (or may not) be identifiable at the archaeological site under investigation. The method of excavating in arbitrary spits is most frequently encountered at site excavations which lack any visible or reconstructable stratigraphy in the archaeological context, or when excavating through intrusive or fill deposits. Terminology origins ''Spit'' is an old English word that archaeologists continue to use. It means an arbitrary or artificial level (the latter expression is preferred by American archaeologists). Today archaeologists rarely dig in spits, except as vertical subdivisions of natural layers that are not naturally subdivided. Excavational use The excavation of sites in arbitrary levels was a product of archaeologists excavating for interesting ...

Spit Hood
A spit hood, spit mask, mesh hood or spit guard is a restraint device intended to prevent a person from spitting or biting. The use of the hoods has been controversial. Justification for use Proponents, often including police unions and associations, say the spit hoods can help protect personnel from exposure to serious infections like hepatitis and that in London, 59% of injecting drug users test positive for hepatitis C. According to Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations in the United States, saliva is considered potentially infectious for hepatitis C, HIV and other bloodborne pathogens only if visible blood is present. Opposition to use Several studies have concluded that the risk of transmission of disease from spitting was low. The spit hoods have been criticised for breaching human rights guidelines. Critics describe the hoods as primitive, cruel, and degrading. There is a risk of death. According to ''The New York Times'', spit hoods have been involv ...

VoIP Spam
VoIP spam or SPIT (spam over Internet telephony) is unsolicited, automatically dialed telephone calls, typically using voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology. VoIP systems, like e-mail and other Internet applications, are susceptible to abuse by malicious parties who initiate unsolicited and unwanted communications, such as telemarketers and prank callers. VoIP calling rates are cheap, and the technology provides convenient, often free tools, such as Asterisk and other applications. The primary underlying technology driving this threat is the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), which is a standard for VoIP telecommunications. Various techniques have been devised to detect spam calls; some take effect even before the recipient has answered a call to disconnect it. These techniques rely on statistical analysis of the features of the call, such as the originating IP address, or features of the signalling and media messages. Character VoIP spam is characterized as unsolicite ...

Spit! (comics)
Spit! was the name of a British adult comic that was published from 1994.Chris Donald ''Rude Kids: The Unfeasible Story of Viz''- Page 245 2004 - Our lawyer had already told us the charge would never stick. You have to be a counterfeiter rather than a copycat to be guilty of passing off. Church was landed with his opponent's legal bill, estimated at ... It was one of many such comics similar to '' Viz'', and was also considerably cruder and of lower production quality than its inspiration, many strips ending with sexual humour. As well as comic strips, it also included photo strips, joke articles, celebrity references, and adverts for phone lines and mail order products. Squeegee Punks In Traffic
A squeegee or squilgee is a tool with a flat, smooth rubber blade, used to remove or control the flow of liquid on a flat surface. It is used for cleaning and in printing. The earliest written references to squeegees date from the mid-19th century and concern deck-cleaning tools, some with leather rather than rubber blades. The name "squeegee" may come from the word "squeege", meaning press or squeeze, which was first recorded in 1783. The closely related "squeedging" was reportedly first used in 1782, in the Covent Garden Theatre, during the performing of the comedy ''Which is the Man?'' by Hannah Cowley. Window cleaning The best-known of these tools is probably the hand-held window squeegee, used to remove the cleaning fluid or water from a glass surface. A soapy solution acts as a lubricant and breaks up the dirt, then the squeegee is used to draw the now water-borne dirt off the glass leaving a clean surface. Some squeegees are backed with a sponge which can soak up soapy ...

Spit (card Game)
Spit, also known as Slam or Speed, is a card game of the shedding family for two players. The game is played until all of a player's cards are gone. Objective The goal of Spit is to get rid of one's cards as quickly as possible. The players do not take turns; physical speed and alertness is required to play faster than the opponent. On each deal, the player who is first to go through all of their starting cards can reduce the number of cards for the next deal. By being successful for several deals, clearing all of one's cards becomes possible, and if this is carried out successfully, one wins the game. Setup Spit is played by two players. The entire deck is split between them, and each player makes five stacks in front of themselves in a row, similar to Klondike, as follows: *Stack 1: (0 cards face down), 1 card face up *Stack 2: 1 card face down, 1 card face up *Stack 3: 2 cards face down, 1 card face up *Stack 4: 3 cards face down, 1 card face up *Stack 5: 4 cards face dow ...
