Spiros Evangelatos
Spiros Evangelatos (; October 20, 1940 – January 24, 2017) was a Greek theater director, academic, and member of the Academy of Athens. Biography Born in Athens, Evangelatos was the son of composer and chief musician of the Greek National Opera, Antiochos Evangelatos, and harpist Xenia Bourexaki. Influenced by his family's artistic background, he pursued a career in theater. He initially studied at the School of Philosophy, University of Athens, and then at the National Theatre of Greece Drama School, graduating in 1961. Between 1966 and 1970, he furthered his studies in theater and theater studies on a scholarship at the University of Vienna. Evangelatos founded the "Neoelliniki Skini" in 1962 and collaborated with the National Theatre of Greece from 1971 to 1977, directing performances in the Theatre of Epidaurus and other locations. Theatre
Theatre or theater is a collaborative form of performing art that uses live performers, usually actors or actresses, to present the experience of a real or imagined event before a live audience in a specific place, often a stage. The performers may communicate this experience to the audience through combinations of gesture, speech, song, music, and dance. National Theatre Of Northern Greece
The National (or State) Theatre of Northern Greece (Κρατικό Θέατρο Βορείου Ελλάδος), an institution promoting theatrical plays in Thessaloniki and northern Greece, was founded in 1961 by Sokratis Karantinos, its first director. The Drama School and the Dance Theatre are integral parts of the National Theatre. The first base of the institution was the building of the Royal Theatre (Thessaloniki) but in 1962 was transferred to the current building. The complex of the Society of Macedonian Studies consists of three buildings. Megaron B', which hosts the theatre, was designed in early 1950s by Vasilis Kassandras, influenced by the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. The Order of the Phoenix ( el, Τάγμα του Φοίνικος) is an order of Greece, established on 13 May 1926, by the republican government of the Second Hellenic Republic to replace the defunct Royal Order of George I. The order was retained after the restoration of the monarchy in 1935 and continues to be awarded by the current Third Republic. The honour is bestowed by the Greek government to Greek citizens who have excelled in the arts and literature, science, public administration, shipping, commerce, and industry. Ancient Theatre Of Epidaurus
The Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus is a theatre in the Greek city of Epidaurus, located on the southeast end of the sanctuary dedicated to the ancient Greek God of medicine, Asclepius. It is built on the west side of Cynortion Mountain, near modern Lygourio, and belongs to the Epidaurus Municipality. Constructed in late 4th century BC, it is considered to be the most perfect ancient Greek theatre with regard to acoustics and aesthetics. Because of its exceptional architecture and aesthetics, the theatre was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1988 along with the Temple of Asclepius. The National Theatre of Greece () is based in Athens, Greece. History The first permanent theatre in modern Greece had been the Boukoura Theatre from 1840, but it had difficulty in managing its operation and stood empty for long periods of time. The National Theatre of Greece was decided to be founded in 1880, with a grant from King George I and Efstratios Rallis to give theatre a permanent home in Athens. The foundations for this new project were laid on Agiou Konstantinou Street and the building itself was designed by the famous Saxonian architect noted for many other public buildings in Athens at the time, Ernst Ziller.
