Spirit FM (UK Radio Station)
Greatest Hits Radio West Sussex is an Independent Local radio station owned and operated by Bauer as part of the Greatest Hits Radio Network. It broadcasts to West Sussex. History Spirit FM began broadcasting in April 1996 as an independent radio station. Its original chairman was David Palmer. The founding MD was Steve Oates. In June 2020 Bauer announced that the station "will be rebranded as "Greatest Hits Radio", offering classic hits from the '70s, '80s and '90s". Spirit FM was awarded the licence to broadcast to West Sussex by the former Radio Authority, now Ofcom, in 1995 and was a radio station that was part of the UKRD Group In 2020, after being acquired by Bauer from UKRD, it become part of the national Greatest Hits Radio brand, while later in the year many of the ex-presenters of Spirit FM were hired by a new local DAB station called V2 Radio. Classic Hits
Classic hits is a radio format which generally includes songs from the top 40 music charts from the late 1960s to the early 2000s, with music from the 1980s serving as the core of the format. Music that was popularized by MTV in the early 1980s and the nostalgia behind it is a major driver to the format. It is considered the successor to the oldies format, a collection of top 40 songs from the late 1950s through the late 1970s that was once extremely popular in the United States and Canada. The term is sometimes incorrectly used as a synonym for the adult hits format, which uses a slightly newer music library stretching from all decades to the present with a major focus on 1990s and 2000s pop, rock and alternative songs. Bauer Radio
Bauer Media Audio UK is a UK-based radio division of the Bauer Media Group. History In early 2008, German magazine publisher Bauer bought the radio division of British company Emap, which had been established as East Midland Allied Press in 1947. Consequently, Emap Radio Limited was renamed to Bauer Radio Limited. Emap's assets included national stations Kiss, Kerrang! and Magic, and local stations under the Big City Network brand in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. These included 22 local FM stations in Scotland which Emap had bought from Scottish Radio Holdings in 2005. West Sussex
West Sussex is a county in South East England on the English Channel coast. The ceremonial county comprises the shire districts of Adur, Arun, Chichester, Horsham, and Mid Sussex, and the boroughs of Crawley and Worthing. Overview The network launched on 5 January 2015 as the "Bauer City 2 Network", and rebranded on 7 January 2019 due to the success of Radio City 2 in Liverpool on FM.
