The Spire City Ghost Hounds are a professional baseball team in Frederick, Maryland, that began play in 2023. The franchise competes in the South Division of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and plays home games at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium, sharing the ballpark with the Frederick Keys. History The team's creation was announced in November 2022. The team held a name-the-team contest in January and February 2023, with the name to be announced in June 2023 from the choices of Bone Shakers, Ghost Hounds, Rail Frogs, Sawbones, and Screaming Alpacas. Until then, the team's hats and jerseys featured question marks in place of a name. The team name was announced as Spire City Ghost Hounds on June 24. The team lost its inaugural game 10–4 on April 28, 2023, at CaroMont Health Park in Gastonia, North Carolina, to the Gastonia Honey Hunters. The Bowie Baysox are a Minor League Baseball team located in Bowie, Maryland. They are the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and play in the Eastern League. Their home ballpark is Prince George's Stadium. History From 1989 to 1992, the Orioles' Double-A affiliate was located in Hagerstown, Maryland and called the Suns. When Major League Baseball added two teams in 1993, bids were offered for two new Triple-A franchises, and the Maryland Baseball Limited Partnership (which owned the Suns and also the Advanced-A Frederick Keys) got into the running to put one of the new franchises in central Maryland. Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium, located in Frederick, Maryland, is the home of the Frederick Keys, a collegiate summer baseball team of the MLB Draft League. Opened in 1990, it seats 5,400 fans. History The stadium is named for Harry Grove, who was one of the founders of the Frederick Hustlers, a professional team that existed between 1915 and the World War II era.
