Alfred Spinks
Alfred Spinks (25 February 1917 – 11 February 1982), was a British chemist and biologist. Biography Alfred Spinks was the only child of Alfred Robert Spinks, manager of a Littleport brewery, and Ruth (née Harley). He was born in Littleport on 25 February 1917. In 1932 Spinks won a scholarship to Soham Grammar School. From there he won an Isle of Ely County Major Scholarship and entered University College, Nottingham. In 1938 he gained the highest chemistry marks of any candidate in the University of London BSc external degree examination. He went to Imperial College, where he worked with A. W. Johnson, under Ian Heilbron, on vitamin A synthesis. He was awarded his PhD in 1940. That year, both Spinks and Johnson were offered jobs at the Dyestuffs Division of ICI at Blackley. John Spinks (musician)
John Frederick Spinks (28 November 1953 − 9 July 2014) was an English songwriter and musician. He was best known as the guitarist and songwriter for The Outfield. Early life and career John Spinks was born on the East End of London in November 1953. Spinks, Tony Lewis, and Alan Jackman first played together in the 1970s band Sirius B. After rehearsing for six months, the group disbanded due to the advent of punk rock. In the 1980s, Spinks recorded several demos under the name Baseball Boys, a name chosen because it closely resembled a gang called The Baseball Furies from the film '' The Warriors''. "Just to be outrageous, I put what I felt was a stupid name on the demos," said Spinks, "and the people I took them to said, `Sounds great. Can we see the band?` And there wasn't really a band." Tommy Spinks (born 22 April 1994 in Edinburgh, Scotland) is a Scotland, Scottish rugby union player who plays for Glasgow Hawks RFC, Glasgow Hawks at the Flanker (rugby union), Flanker or Lock (rugby union), Lock positions. Spinks states his preferred position is openside flanker. Rugby Union career Amateur career Spinks started playing mini rugby when he was 5 years old. By his fourth year of high school at North Berwick he played for the 1st XV. The rugby coach at Fettes College got Spinks a scholarship there. In June 2014 it was announced that Spinks would join Glasgow Warriors as part of their Elite Development Programme. As part of his deal Spinks was able to play for Glasgow Hawks when not involved with the Warriors. After a stint in Jersey he re-joined the Hawks in 2016. Thomas Allen Spinks, known as Tommy Spinks (October 29, 1948 – August 26, 2007), was an American football wide receiver. He played college football for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. Spinks set two records in the 1968 Grantland Rice Bowl, when he caught 12 passes for 167 yards. After his Tech career, Spinks was selected in the 1970 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings, but never played in an NFL game. Spinks was inducted into the Louisiana Tech University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1988. Terence "Terry" George Spinks MBE (28 February 1938 – 26 April 2012) was a boxer from Great Britain, who won the gold medal in the flyweight division (– 51 kg) at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia. In the final he defeated Mircea Dobrescu of Romania on points. He was also British featherweight champion from 1960 to 1961. Stan Spinks
Stanley James Spinks (16 October 1912 – 23 October 2003) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Hawthorn Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1930s. He played as both a centreman and wingman in his career. Stan's father, Charles Spinks was a founder of the Hawthorn Football club in 1902. Spinks finished second in the 1938 Brownlow Medal count, missing out by one vote to Dick Reynolds. He did, however, win that season's Hawthorn best and fairest, having won the award previously in 1932. In 1941 he quit the club after being dropped to the reserves side. He finished his playing career with Camberwell in the Victorian Football Association, but later returned to Hawthorn as coach of their thirds team in 1946. He also became an active committeeman (1947-1951-55) and he served as a club selector for more than a decade. In 2007, Stan Spinks was inducted into the Hawthorn Hall of Fame. Scipio Ronald Spinks (born July 12, 1947) is a former right handed pitcher in Major League Baseball who played from 1969 through 1973 for the Houston Astros and St. Louis Cardinals. Michael Spinks (born July 13, 1956) is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1977 to 1988. He held world championships in two weight classes, including the undisputed light heavyweight title from 1983 to 1985, and the lineal heavyweight title from 1985 to 1988.
