Spicy Love Soup
''Spicy Love Soup'' () is a 1997 Chinese film directed by Zhang Yang and written by Zhang, Liu Fendou, Cai Shangjun, and Diao Yi'nan based on a story by Zhang and Peter Loehr. ''Spicy Love Soup'' was produced by Loehr's Imar Film Company, Xi'an Film Studio, and Taiwanese financing. The film is Zhang's directorial debut and would prove to be a launching pad for those both in front and behind the cameras. Screenwriters Cai Shangjun ('' The Red Awn'') and Diao Yi'nan (''Uniform'', '' Night Train'') have since gone on to direct their own films, while Liu Fendou has expanded into both directing (''Green Hat'') and film production (Zhang Yibai's ''Spring Subway''). The cast is also notable for the debuts of two of China's most popular actresses, Gao Yuanyuan and Xu Jinglei. Zhang Yang (director)
Zhang Yang (; born 1967) is a Chinese film director, screenwriter, and occasional actor. He is the son of film director, Zhang Huaxun. Zhang grew up in Beijing, studied until 1988 at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangdong, from which he graduated with a degree in Chinese literature, and then went to the Central Academy of Drama, graduating in 1992. Career Zhang Yang uses a realistic style, and achieved great recognition for his 1999 independent production '' Xizao'' (; English translation: ''Shower''), which was successful at Chinese box offices as well as international film festivals. This was followed in 2001 by ''Zuotian'' ("Quitting" in its American release). ''Spring Subway'' () is a 2002 Chinese romance film directed by Zhang Yibai and starring Xu Jinglei and Geng Le. Sixth Generation director Zhang Yang also plays a role. The film represents a relatively new genre in China, the artistic "commercial film" with its international urban sensibilities designed to appeal to young middle-class Chinese. ''Spring Subway'' is a stylistic film that plays with chronological conventions and flashbacks, and with characters that often break the fourth wall to directly address the audience. Wakin Chau
Wakin Chau (born 22 December 1960), better known by his stage name Emil Chau during the 1980s and 1990s, is a Hong Kong-born Taiwanese singer and actor, popular throughout Taiwan, Hong Kong, Mainland China, and parts of Southeast Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam).
