Sphagnum Contortum
''Sphagnum contortum'' is a species of moss reported in North America and Europe. NatureServe marked its global conservation status as Secure. Common names In English, it goes by the common names contorted sphagnum, twisted sphagnum moss, and twisted bog-moss. Description The species is dioicious and sporophyte is rare in this species. ''S. contortum'' also has capsules but it is unknown if ''S. contortum'' in Great Britain or Ireland have this. Distribution and habitat It occurs in minerotrophic habitats, riparian areas, peatlands, and rarely in open wet woodlands. It also occurs at moderate to low elevations and is not shade tolerant. Distribution ''Sphagnum contortum'' is frequent in northern and western parts of the British Isles but rare in southern and eastern parts. It also occurs in various parts of the United States. Moss
Mosses are small, non-vascular flowerless plants in the taxonomic division Bryophyta (, ) '' sensu stricto''. Bryophyta (''sensu lato'', Schimp. 1879) may also refer to the parent group bryophytes, which comprise liverworts, mosses, and hornworts. Mosses typically form dense green clumps or mats, often in damp or shady locations.
