Caryonosuchus
''Caryonosuchus'' is an extinct genus of sphagesaurid notosuchian known from the Late Cretaceous of São Paulo State, southeastern Brazil. Discovery ''Caryonosuchus'' is known only from the holotype specimen DGM 1411-R, a nearly complete anterior portion of the skull and lower jaw which housed at the Earth Science Museum of the Departamento Nacional da Produção Mineral. A cast is housed at the Departamento de Geologia, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. It was found near Presidente Prudente City of southwest São Paulo State. It was collected from the Adamantina Formation of the Bauru Basin, which dates to the Campanian and Maastrichtian stages of the Late Cretaceous. DGM 1411-R was briefly mentioned before the description of ''Caryonosuchus''. For example, Kellner & Campos (1999) tentatively assigned it to '' Sphagesaurus'' sp.,A. W. A. Kellner and D. d. A. Campos. (1999). Vertebrate paleontology in Brazil — a review. ''Episodes'' 22(3):238-251 however new ...

Sphagesaurus
''Sphagesaurus'' is an extinct genus of sphagesaurid notosuchian crocodylomorph from the Late Cretaceous of southwest São Paulo, southern Brazil. Species and discovery ''Sphagesaurus'' was first described and named by Llewellyn Ivor Price in 1950 and the type species is ''S. huenei''. ''S. huenei'' was described by Price (1950) on the basis of two isolated molariform maxillary teeth, the holotype DGM 332-R and the referred specimen DGM 333-R. The holotype was found in a railway cut between the cities of Presidente Bernardes and Santo Anastacio in the state of São Paulo, while DGM 333-R was found near Catanduva city of São Paulo, both from the Bauru Group. Bertini ''et al.'' (1993) referred the isolated molariform tooth, URC-R 015 from Locality 99 of the Adamantina Formation, to ''S. huenei'', and referred the DGM specimens to the same formation. Kellner ''et al.'' (1995) and Kellner & Campos (1999) tentatively assigned DGM 1411-R, a nearly comple ...

Caipirasuchus
''Caipirasuchus'' is an extinct genus of sphagesaurid notosuchians known from the Late Cretaceous of northern São Paulo State, southeastern Brazil. The type species, ''C. paulistanus'', was named in 2011. A second species, ''C. montealtensis'', was referred to ''Caipirasuchus'' in 2013 after having been named in 2008 as a species of ''Sphagesaurus''. A third species, ''C. stenognathus'', was described in 2014. A fourth species, ''C. mineirus'', was described in 2018. A fifth species, ''C. attenboroughi'', was named in 2021 in honour of David Attenborough. Discovery and naming ''Caipirasuchus'' was first named by Fabiano V. Iori and Ismar S. Carvalho in 2011 and the type species is ''C. paulistanus''. The generic name is derived from Portuguese word Caipira which refers to the rural inhabitants of the Brazilian states, covering almost all of the Bauru Basin, and Greek ''souchus'' meaning "crocodile". The specific name is derived from "paulista", the designation for the re ...

Armadillosuchus
''Armadillosuchus'' is an extinct genus of sphagesaurid crocodylomorph. It was described in February 2009 from the late Campanian to early Maastrichtian Adamantina Formation of the Bauru Basin in Brazil, dating to approximately 70 Ma. ''Armadillosuchus'' length was estimated on with an estimated body mass of . Sphagesaurids share a number of mammal-like features in their teeth and jaws, although they are unrelated to mammals. ''Armadillosuchus'' is especially mammal-like in that it had heavy body armor characterized by flexible bands and rigid shields that covered its back, less like the traditional osteoderms that line the backs of most crurotarsans and more like that of a modern armadillo (hence the genus name meaning "armadillo crocodile") or a glyptodont. Because of its unique morphology, it is believed to have had a terrestrial and quite possibly fossorial lifestyle. Features Armour plating Directly behind the skull of ''Armadillosuchus,'' protecting the neck, the ...

Adamantinasuchus
''Adamantinasuchus'' is an extinct genus of notosuchian crocodylomorph from and named after the Late Cretaceous Adamantina Formation of Brazil. It is known from only one fossil, holotype UFRJ-DG 107-R, collected by William Nava (hence the specific name ''navae''). The fossil consists of a partial skull, fragmentary limb bones and a few broken vertebrae, and was found 25 km SW of the town of Marilia, near a reservoir dam. ''Adamantinasuchus'' was approximately 60 cm long from nose to tail, and would have only weighed a few kilograms. Features Skull ''Adamantinasuchus'''s skull is quite well preserved; most of the right anterior part is present, along with some of the right posterior part, but the cranium is crushed and the left side of the skull is altogether missing. The right lower jaw is also preserved, along with many of the teeth. The skull is small, only 60 mm long and around 30 mm high, but the elliptical orbits are very large, almost as long as ...

Labidiosuchus
''Labidiosuchus'' is an extinct genus of notosuchian mesoeucrocodylian from Minas Gerais State, southeastern Brazil. ''Labidiosuchus'' had a very bizarre dentition and its lower jaw had a Y-shaped outline. Discovery ''Labidiosuchus'' is known only from the holotype specimen DGM 1480-R, an incomplete lower jaw with the anterior part of the dentary complete, lacking most of the right mandibular ramus and the end of the left mandibular ramus. It is housed at the Earth Science Museum of the Departamento Nacional da Produção Mineral. A cast is housed at the Departamento de Geologia, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. It was found in Serra do Veadinho site, Municipality of Peirópolis of Minas Gerais State, from a site in which ''Itasuchus'', yet another enigmatic mesoeucrocodylian, was found. It was collected from the Serra da Galga Formation (Bauru Group) in the Bauru Basin, which dates to the late Maastrichtian stage of the Late Cretaceous. Description ''Labidiosuc ...

Santonian
The Santonian is an age in the geologic timescale or a chronostratigraphic stage. It is a subdivision of the Late Cretaceous Epoch or Upper Cretaceous Series. It spans the time between 86.3 ± 0.7 mya (million years ago) and 83.6 ± 0.7 mya. The Santonian is preceded by the Coniacian and is followed by the Campanian.Gradstein ''et al.'' (2004) Stratigraphic definition The Santonian Stage was established by French geologist Henri Coquand in 1857. It is named after the city of Saintes in the region of Saintonge, where the original type locality is located. The base of the Santonian Stage is defined by the appearance of the inoceramid bivalve ''Cladoceramus undulatoplicatus''. The GSSP (official reference profile) for the base of the Santonian Stage is located near Olazagutia, Spain; it was ratified by the Subcommission on Cretaceous Stratigraphy in 2012. The Santonian's top (the base of the Campanian Stage) is informally marked by the extinction of the crinoid '' Marsupites tes ...
