Spendarella
Spendarella (foaled April 27, 2019) is an American thoroughbred racehorse who has won multiple graded stakes as a three-year-old in 2022 on the turf including Grade I Del Mar Oaks at Del Mar. Background Spendarella is a bay filly, bred in New York State by Gainesway Thoroughbreds, the breeding arm of Gainesway Farm. Her sire is the Japanese-bred Karakontie, grandson of champion Sunday Silence. Her dam is out of the California-bred Unusual Heat mare Spanish Bunny, who broke her maiden at Del Mar in 2010. Gainesway purchased Spanish Bunny in foal to Sundarban for US$130,000 from Taylor Made Sales Agency at the 2015 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale. Karakontie
Karakontie (foaled 30 January 2011) is a Japanese-bred, French-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. He was one of the best French-trained two-year-olds of 2013 when he won three of his four races including the Prix La Rochette and Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère. He returned to win the Poule d'Essai des Poulains on his second start as a three-year-old but was given a long break after running poorly in the Prix du Jockey Club. On his return to the track in autumn he recorded his biggest win when taking the Breeders' Cup Mile. The Herecomesthebride Stakes is a Grade III American Thoroughbred horse race for three year old fillies, over a distance of one mile on the turf held annually in March at Gulfstream Park, Hallandale Beach, Florida. The event currently carries a purse of $200,000. History The inaugural running of the event was split into two divisions as the eight and ninth race in the program on 9 May 1984. The event was named after the winning mare Herecomesthebride who in her career won twelve races from sixteen starts including the 1977 Bonnie Miss Stakes (now the Grade II Gulfstream Oaks). The event was not held in 1990 and 1991. The event was upgraded to Grade III in 1998. The event was not held in 2008. The Coronation Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race in Great Britain open to three-year-old fillies. It is run at Ascot over a distance of 7 furlong and 213 yards (1,603 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in June. History The event was established in 1840, and its title commemorates the coronation of a new British monarch, Queen Victoria, two years earlier. The present system of race grading was introduced in 1971, and for a period the Coronation Stakes held Group 2 status. It was promoted to Group 1 level in 1988. The Del Mar Oaks is an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually in mid August at the Del Mar Racetrack in Del Mar, California. Open to three-year-old Filly, fillies, it is contested at a distance of one and one-eighth miles (9 furlongs) on the turf. Since 1994 it has been a Graded stakes race, Grade I event.
