Spencer M. Williams
Spencer Mortimer Williams (February 24, 1922 – January 3, 2008) was a United States federal judge, United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. Education and career Born in Reading, Massachusetts, Reading, Massachusetts, Williams was in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant (JG) during World War II, from 1943 to 1946. He received an Bachelor of Arts, Artium Baccalaureus degree from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1943 and a Bachelor of Laws from the UC Berkeley School of Law in 1948. He was in private practice in San Jose, California, San Jose, California from 1948 to 1949. Senior Status
Senior status is a form of semi-retirement for United States federal judges. To qualify, a judge in the Federal judiciary of the United States, federal court system must be at least 65 years old, and the sum of the judge's age and years of service as a federal judge must be at least 80 years. As long as senior judges carry at least a 25 percent caseload or meet other criteria for activity, they remain entitled to maintain a staffed office and chambers, including a secretary and their normal complement of law clerks, and they continue to receive annual cost-of-living increases. Senior judges vacate their seats on the bench, and the President of the United States, president may appoint new full-time judges to fill those seats. Some U.S. states have similar systems for senior judges. The United States Senate is the upper chamber of the United States Congress, with the House of Representatives being the lower chamber. Richard Milhous Nixon (January 9, 1913April 22, 1994) was the 37th president of the United States, serving from 1969 to 1974. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served as a representative and senator from California and was the 36th vice president from 1953 to 1961 under President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
