Spelunker (video Game)
''Spelunker'' is a 1983 platform video game developed by Timothy G. Martin of MicroGraphic Image. It is set in a colossal cave, with the player starting at the cave's entrance at the top, and the objective is to get to the treasure at the bottom. Originally released by MicroGraphic Image for the Atari 8-bit family in 1983, the game was later ported to the Commodore 64 and re-released by Broderbund in 1984, with European publishing rights licensed to Ariolasoft. It was released on arcade in 1985, on the Nintendo Entertainment System on December 6, 1985 in Japan and September 1987 in North America, and on the MSX in 1986. A sequel was released in arcades in 1986 called ''Spelunker II: 23 no Kagi'', and a different sequel for the NES on September 18, 1987 called '' Spelunker II: Yūsha e no Chōsen'', both by Irem and in Japan only. Spelunker HD
''Spelunker HD'' is a PlayStation 3 downloadable platform video game developed by and published by Irem Software Engineering and Tozai Games. It is a remake of the 1985 NES port of Irem's arcade version of Tim Martin's '' Spelunker'' and it was available on the PlayStation Network's Store. While in terms of gameplay the game does not differ greatly from the original, it adds HD graphics, although the NES version can still be played, as well as 100 all-new levels over 10 different locations. A Japanese-only version titled ''Spelunker Black'' was later made available on the PlayStation Store in 2010. It features Black Spelunker as the new protagonist along with a much narrower field of vision. It was first announced on TGS 2008. It was released in Japan on March 26, 2009, the rest of Asia on July 28, 2009, in North America on November 23, 2010, and in Europe on August 10, 2011. ''Spelunky'' is a 2008 source-available 2D platform game created by independent developer Derek Yu and released as freeware for Microsoft Windows. It was remade for the Xbox 360 in 2012, with ports of the new version following for various platforms, including back to Microsoft Windows. The player controls a spelunker who explores a series of caves while collecting treasure, saving damsels, fighting enemies, and dodging traps.
