Speedgoat
Speedgoat 50k is an international skyrunning competition held for the first time in 2008. It is run every year in Little Cottonwood Canyon (Utah, United States) in July and consists of four races, a 50K, 28K, 11K, and a 2-day challenge. In 2012, 2013 and 2014 the 50K was valid as Sky Ultra for the Skyrunner World Series. The 50k race features about an elevation ascent of 10,859 feet and descent of 10,512 feet. The race has a minimum base elevation 7,589 feet and a maximum elevation of 10,980 feet. Due to its high altitude, large vertical gain/loss, and technical terrain; the race is regarded as one of the toughest 50ks in the world. The race director is the ultra trail runner Karl Meltzer. The 2023 race is hosted as part of the UTMB World Series. Sage Canaday
Sage Clifton Read Canaday (born November 14, 1985) is an American long-distance runner and ultramarathoner. Running career High school and collegiate Canaday attended Newberg High School in Newberg, Oregon, where he ran track and cross country. He then went on to run for Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and at 21 was the youngest qualifier and runner at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials marathon, held in New York City on the same weekend as the 2007 New York City Marathon, and went on to win the Ivy League 10,000 meter championship in 2008. Canaday graduated from Cornell in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Design. Anna Frost (runner)
Anna Heather Frost (born 1 November 1981) is a New Zealand trail and ultra runner. Running career Frost turned professional in 2004 and later began running for Team Salomon. In 2012, she won the Transvulcania ultramarathon in the Canary Islands in a record time of 8:11:31., but did not return to defend her title the next year. She finished first at the Speedgoat 50K in Utah in 2012, second at the Ultra Cavalls del Vent in the Pyrenees mountains of Spain, and first at the Maxi-Race in Annecy, France. In June 2013, she won the Trail du Colorado race in Réunion. In 2010, Frost won the overall title in the Skyrunner World Series. The series included wins at the Table Mountain Challenge and the Three Peaks Race, among others. Karl Meltzer
Karl Meltzer (born December 8, 1967, nicknamed "Speedgoat Karl") is an ultrarunner and ultrarunning coach based in Sandy, Utah. Meltzer has won more 100-mile ultramarathons than any other ultramarathoner, and has held speed records at major U.S. trails, including the Appalachian Trail and the Pony Express Trail. Meltzer's trail runs have been featured in news outlets from Ultrarunning.com to NBC Sports. Meltzer has been a professional ultramarathoner since 1999, and a coach since 2007. While many ultramarathoners tend to be vegetarian, vegan, and anti-alcohol or caffeine, Meltzer has been seen with bacon, Red Bull, and microbrews. On September 18, 2016, Meltzer set an Appalachian Trail record by completing the 2,190 miles over 14 states in 45 days 22 hours and 38 minutes. Jim Walmsley (born January 17, 1990) is an American long-distance runner. Little Cottonwood Canyon
Little Cottonwood Canyon lies within the Wasatch-Cache National Forest along the eastern side of the Salt Lake Valley, roughly 15 miles from Salt Lake City, Utah. The canyon is part of Granite, a CDP and "Community Council" designated by Salt Lake County.
