Speed Graphic (EP)
''Speed Graphic'' is the first of a three-EP series released by Ben Folds in 2003. It included a cover of "In Between Days" (originally by The Cure, from their 1985 album ''The Head on the Door''). It also included a piano and vocal arrangement of "Give Judy My Notice", which would later appear on '' Songs for Silverman'' in a rearranged full-band version. The final three tracks were written a long time before this release. Two of those songs, "Protection" (co-written by Ben's former wife, Anna Goodman) and "Dog" have floated around as bootlegged early demos for years, and the other one, "Wandering", was never available in any format previously, and was written by Ben Folds and his fellow Ben Folds Five bandmate, Darren Jessee. Ben Folds
Benjamin Scott Folds (born September 12, 1966) is an American singer-songwriter from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. After playing in several small independent bands throughout the late 80s and into the early 90s, Folds came to prominence as the frontman and pianist of the alternative rock trio Ben Folds Five from 1993 to 2000, and again during their reunion from 2011 to 2013. He has recorded a number of solo albums, most recently '' Sleigher'' (2024). He has also collaborated with musicians such as Regina Spektor, "Weird Al" Yankovic and yMusic, and undertaken experimental songwriting projects with actor William Shatner and authors such as Nick Hornby and Neil Gaiman. He was the artistic advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. from 2019 until 2025. Songs For Silverman
''Songs for Silverman'' is the second studio album by Ben Folds, released in April 2005 by Epic Records. The album reached No. 13 on the ''Billboard'' 200, making it Folds' highest-charting album until the release of '' Way to Normal'' in 2008. The album is named after Ben Goldman, Folds' former A&R representative at Sony BMG. Folds explained, "I was always sending songs to him for the album, so I wanted to name it after him. But somebody (from Sony) found out and flipped out, so I changed it a bit and turned it in." Goldman's name also spawned the title of Folds' compilation album '' Songs for Goldfish''. Singles The first single, " Landed", reached No. 77 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and No. 40 on the Adult Top 40. Evan Scott Olson (born 1967) is an American rock singer and songwriter based in Greensboro, North Carolina. Professionally known since the early 2000s for his work as a songwriter for film and television, Olson received renewed interest in his earlier independent recording when one of his songs was the subject of a musical mystery featured on the podcast '' Reply All''. Robert Smith (musician)
Robert James Smith (born 21 April 1959) is an English musician who is the co-founder, lead vocalist, guitarist, primary songwriter, and only continuous member of the Cure, a post-punk rock band formed in 1976. His guitar-playing style, singing voice, and fashion sense, often sporting a pale complexion, smeared red lipstick, black eye-liner, unkempt wiry black hair, and all-black clothes, were highly influential on the goth subculture that rose to prominence in the 1980s. Smith's other work includes playing the lead guitar as a member of Siouxsie and the Banshees from 1982 to 1984 and being the co-founder of the short-lived band the Glove in 1983. In Between Days
"In Between Days" (sometimes listed as "Inbetween Days" or "In-Between Days") is a song by the English rock band The Cure, released on 19 July 1985 as the first single from the band's sixth album ''The Head on the Door''. The song was an international success. In the UK, it was the band's ninth chart single and their fourth consecutive Top 20 hit; while in the US it was their first single to reach the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, where it peaked at number 99. It was a Top 20 hit in Australia and New Zealand and also charted in several European countries, increasing the popularity of the band. Music video The video was filmed on 18 June 1985 at Fulham Studios, London and created by Tim Pope. The video depicts the band playing, enhanced by 360-degree shots and drawn-in, colourful socks. Darren Michael Jessee (born April 8, 1971) is an American drummer and singer-songwriter who was the drummer in the alternative rock trio Ben Folds Five. He has also worked as an instrumentalist for Sharon Van Etten and Hiss Golden Messenger and released three solo albums and four albums as singer and songwriter for indie band Hotel Lights. His first solo album, ''The Jane, Room 217'', was released on August 24, 2018, to near-universal acclaim from critics. Ben Folds Five was an American alternative rock trio formed in 1993 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The group comprised Ben Folds (lead vocals, piano), Robert Sledge (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Darren Jessee (drums, backing vocals). The group achieved success in the alternative, indie and pop music scenes. Their single "Brick" from the second album, '' Whatever and Ever Amen'' (1997), gained airplay on many mainstream radio stations. During their first seven years, the band released three studio records, a compilation of B-sides and outtakes, and eight singles. They also contributed to a number of soundtracks and compilations. ''The Head on the Door'' is the sixth studio album by English rock band the Cure. It was released on 30 August 1985 by Fiction Records. Preceded by the single " In Between Days" which had reached No. 15 on the UK Singles Chart, ''The Head on the Door'' was described by ''Melody Maker'' as "a collection of pop songs". With its variety of styles, it allowed the group to reach a wider audience in both Europe and North America. In the United Kingdom it became their most successful album to date, entering the albums chart at No. 7 on 7 September. The album is the first to feature drummer Boris Williams. The Cure
The Cure are an English Rock music, rock band formed in Crawley in 1976 by Robert Smith (musician), Robert Smith (vocals, guitar) and Lol Tolhurst (drums).
