Specimen Ridge
Specimen Ridge, el. is an approximately ridge along the south rim of the Lamar Valley in Yellowstone National Park. The ridge separates the Lamar Valley from Mirror Plateau. The ridge is oriented northwest to southeast from the Tower Junction area to Amethyst Mountain. The ridge is known for its abundance of amethyst, opal and petrified wood. It was referred to as ''Specimen Mountain'' by local miners and was probably named by prospectors well before 1870. Specimen (band)
Specimen are a British band founded in the 1980s. Their music has been described as spanning many different genres of music, including Glam rock, glam, Gothic rock, goth, Punk rock, punk and post-punk, and the band is widely credited as one of the pioneers of the goth subculture, both musically and stylistically. Early days The band was formed in 1981 in Bristol, England by vocalist Olli Wisdom with guitarists Jon Klein (musician), Jon Klein (from Europeans (band), Europeans) and Kevin Mills (from the X-Certs). Their first show was at a street party celebrating the wedding of Charles, Prince of Wales and Diana, Princess of Wales, Lady Diana Spencer. A specimen stamp is a postage stamp or postal stationery indicium sent to postmasters and postal administrations so that they are able to identify valid stamps and to avoid forgeries. The usual method of invalidating the stamps is either overprinting in ink or perforating the word ''Specimen'' across the stamp and where English is not the common language, the words ''Muestra'' (Spanish), ''Monster'' (Dutch), ''Muster'' (German) or ''Образец'' (Russian, 'Obrasetz') have been used instead. A herbarium (plural: herbaria) is a collection of preserved plant specimens and associated data used for scientific study. The specimens may be whole plants or plant parts; these will usually be in dried form mounted on a sheet of paper (called ''exsiccatum'', plur. Sample (material)
In general, a sample is a limited quantity of something which is intended to be similar to and represent a larger amount of that thing(s). The things could be countable objects such as individual items available as units for sale, or an uncountable material. Even though the word "sample" implies a smaller quantity taken from a larger amount, sometimes full biological or mineralogical specimens are called samples if they are taken for analysis, testing, or investigation like other samples. They are also considered samples in the sense that even whole specimens are "samples" of the full population of many individual organisms.
