Specified Associated Organisation
A Specified Associated Organisation is an organization of members of the British Liberal Democrats formed around a specific trait and designated by the Federal Executive as affiliates of the party. SAOs are distinguished from other Liberal Democrat pressure groups (also known as ''Associated Organizations'') in that SAOs can review and input policies. SAOs include the following: * ethnic minorities (LDCRE), * women (WLD), * the LGBT community (LGBT+ Liberal Democrats), * youth and students ( Young Liberals), * engineers and scientists (ALDES), * parliamentary candidates (PCA) * and local councillor A councillor is an elected representative for a local government council in some countries. Liberal Democrats (UK)
The Liberal Democrats (commonly referred to as the Lib Dems) are a liberal political party in the United Kingdom. Since the 1992 general election, with the exception of the 2015 general election, they have been the third-largest UK political party by the number of votes cast. They have 14 Members of Parliament in the House of Commons, 83 members of the House of Lords, four Members of the Scottish Parliament and one member in the Welsh Senedd. The party has over 2,500 local council seats. Ethnic Minorities
The term 'minority group' has different usages depending on the context. According to its common usage, a minority group can simply be understood in terms of demographic sizes within a population: i.e. a group in society with the least number of individuals is therefore the 'minority'. However, in terms of sociology, economics, and politics; a demographic which takes up the smallest fraction of the population is not necessarily the 'minority'. In the academic context, 'minority' and 'majority' groups are more appropriately understood in terms of hierarchical power structures. Young Liberals (United Kingdom)
Young Liberals is the youth and student organisation of the British Liberal Democrats (UK), Liberal Democrats. Membership is automatic for members of the Liberal Democrats aged 25 and under, whilst those between the ages of 26 - 30 are able to opt-in free of charge. It organises a number of fringe events at the Liberal Democrat Conference, which is held twice each year. Young Liberals exists to campaign on issues affecting young people and students, with branches across the UK. The organisation is run by young people and acts as a Advocacy group, pressure group within the Liberal Democrats. Socialist Society (Labour Party)
A socialist society is a membership organisation that is affiliated with the Labour Party (UK), Labour Party in the United Kingdom, UK. The best-known and oldest socialist society is the Fabian Society, founded in 1884, some years before the creation of the Labour Party itself (in which the Society participated). The Society's membership is relatively small (around 7000) but it exerts much influence in Labour circles.
