Special Operation Group
The Special Operation Group (SOG) is an Indian elite paramilitary unit operating under the Odisha Police (OP). The force specializes in neutralizing terrorists, insurgents and extremists. They are trained to execute rapid action under any circumstance; these are highly trained for field craft and jungle warfare as well. Mission The Special Operation Group (SOG) was formed in August 2004, under the Home Department of the Government of Odisha with the main objective of neutralizing any terrorist, insurgent, extremist groups operating in Odisha. The Odisha Police abbreviated as either OP or OPS, is the law enforcement agency for the state of Odisha in India. It is headquartered in Cuttack, the former capital of Odisha. Pramod Kumar Satapathy
Assistant Commandant Pramod Kumar Satapathy, AC was a Police Officer of the Special Operation Group of Odisha Special Armed Police, which comes under India's Odisha Police who was awarded India's highest peace time gallantry award Ashoka Chakra. On the night of 15 February 2008, about 500 armed naxalites attacked the police at various locations in and around Bhubaneshwar, Odisha, India. On hearing this news, Shri Satapathy along with just 20 available police personnel reached inside the jungle in Nayagarh and launched an assault on the hiding militants. In the ensuing encounter, Shri Satapathy bravely led the operations but ultimately got killed in action. The Andhra Pradesh Police is the law enforcement agency of the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. Greyhounds is a police special forces unit of the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Police departments in India. Greyhounds specialises in counter-insurgency operations against Naxalite and Maoist terrorists. Several Indian paramilitary and police officers have described the Greyhounds as among the best anti-insurgency forces that specialises in anti-Maoist operations and as experts in jungle warfare. History Greyhounds was raised in 1989 by Indian Police Service officer K. S. Vyas. Directly as a consequence of founding the unit, Vyas became the top target on the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) People's War's hit list. Although he eventually was moved out of the Greyhounds, he continued to consult regularly on operations. West Bengal Police
The West Bengal Police is one of the two police forces of the Indian state of West Bengal. The other being the Kolkata Police, which has a separate jurisdiction across Kolkata. Counter Insurgency Force
Counter Insurgency Force or (CIF) A Police tactical unit of West Bengal Police with headquarters in Garia, West Bengal was created by the West Bengal state government in 2010 on the lines of Greyhounds in Andhra Pradesh to combat proscribed Naxalites/Maoists in the state. At least 1000 personnel from the state armed forces have been given commando training prior to inclusion in the CIF. The training center itself is located in Salua, and further field training is given at Salboni, both in West Bengal Midnapore district. Now it shifted to Durgapur. The Shaurya Chakra is an Indian military decoration awarded for valour, courageous action or self-sacrifice while not engaged in direct action with the enemy. Constable Debashish Sethy, SC was an Indian Police Constable of the Odisha Police's Special Operations Group (SOG) who was posthumously conferred India's third highest peacetime gallantry award, the Shaurya Chakra. Career Debashish began his career with the Odisha Police Department as a constable before joining the SOG in 2016. He was from Angul district. The Commando was killed in action in the deep forest near Sirki village in Kalahandi district on September 9, 2020, while in combat with members of the left wing extremism group during an anti-Maoist operation.
