Woodpecker
Woodpeckers are part of the bird family Picidae, which also includes the piculets, wrynecks, and sapsuckers. Members of this family are found worldwide, except for Australia, New Guinea, New Zealand, Madagascar, and the extreme polar regions. Most species live in forests or woodland habitats, although a few species are known that live in treeless areas, such as rocky hillsides and deserts, and the Gila woodpecker specialises in exploiting cacti. Members of this family are chiefly known for their characteristic behaviour. They mostly forage for insect prey on the trunks and branches of trees, and often communicate by drumming with their beaks, producing a reverberatory sound that can be heard at some distance. Sybille Specht, also Sybille Philippin, (born 12 October 1970) is a German operatic mezzo-soprano. She was a member of the Theater Bremen and the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich and has appeared internationally. Since 2010 she has worked freelance, also as a choral conductor and voice teacher. Career Born in Mannheim, Specht grew up in Denmark, Bavaria, and Oldenburg. She took piano and violin lessons as a child. She studied at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber with Helga Köhler-Wellner, graduating with distinction in 1999. She studied further, on a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service, at the Indiana School of Music in Bloomington with Costanza Cuccaro. Richard Specht
Richard Specht (7 December 1870, Vienna – 19 March 1932) was an Austrian lyricist, dramatist, musicologist and writer. Specht is most well known for his writings on classical music, and in his time was seen as a leading music journalist. He was a great authority on the music of Gustav Mahler, and in later life became a regular acquaintance of his widow, Alma Mahler-Werfel. He was, amongst other things, a contributor to the ''Wiener Illustrierten Extrablatts'' and other Viennese newspapers. From 1910, he worked at the ''Merker'' publishing house. In 1925, he was appointed to a professorship at the institution that is now the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna. Raymond Louis Specht (19 July 1924 – 13 February 2021) was an Australian plant ecologist, conservationist and academic, who participated in the Arnhem Land Scientific Expedition of 1948. Early life Raymond Louis Specht was born in 1924 in Adelaide, South Australia to Louis and Harriet Specht. He attended Richmond Primary School and Adelaide High School, finishing high school as dux in 1941. Specht intended to pursue teaching as a career. In 1942 he was a student teacher in physics, chemistry and mathematics at Riverton High School. After attending a short course in teaching at the University of Adelaide, he enrolled in Adelaide Teachers College studying biology in 1943. He combined this with studies at the University of Adelaide, and ultimately took his BSc in botany and zoology in 1945 before taking first class honours in plant ecology in 1946. Minna Specht
Minna Specht (22 December 1879 in Schloss Reinbek – 3 February 1961 in Bremen) was a German educator, socialist and member of the German Resistance. She was one of the founders of the Internationaler Sozialistischer Kampfbund. Early years Minna Specht was born the seventh child of Mathilde and Wilhelm Specht (d. 1882). The family lived in Reinbek castle, originally the hunting lodge in Friedrichsruh, which they acquired in 1874 and turned into a hotel. __NOTOC__ Karl-Wilhelm Specht (22 May 1894 – 3 December 1953) was a general in the Wehrmacht of Nazi Germany during World War II. He was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves. He served on the "Court of Military Honour," a drumhead court-martial that expelled many of the officers involved in the 20 July Plot from the army before handing them over to the People's Court. Specht surrendered to the Soviet forces at the end of the war and died in Voikovo prison camp on 3 December 1953. August Specht (1 August 1849, Lauffen am Neckar – 26 May 1923, Stuttgart) was a German natural history artist and painter. He was a pupil of Heinrich Läpple and Albert Kappis. Johann Georg Specht (20 December 1721 – 30 December 1803) was born in Lindenberg im Allgäu. He was a civil engineer and architect in the south of Germany. Johann Georg Specht trained as a civil engineer with Peter Thumb in Vorarlberg. Specht planned and had a vast number of edifices and other constructions built in Upper Swabia and the Allgäu, amongst which are as varied constructions as water works, bridges, mills, residential buildings, industrial buildings and even castles and churches. His main and most famous project was the monastery church St. Martin at Wiblingen Abbey in 1771. He planned and designed the church but was not allowed to execute the building works when the Bavarian painter and civil engineer Januarius Zick was contracted in 1778 to complete the building works after Specht had been dismissed in December 1777.
