Spearwood Railway Station
Spearwood railway station was a railway station on the Perth rail network. It was located on the Spearwood–Armadale line, from Perth station in Spearwood. History On 1 April 1906, the Spearwood–Armadale line opened from a junction with the Fremantle line at Robbs Jetty to Jandakot, being extended to connect with the South Western Railway at Armadale on 15 July 1907. In 1909, some of the buildings from Jandakot station were moved to Spearwood station. The station was little more than a raised wooden platform covered with dirt and a couple of wooden sheds. Initially only served by freight trains, a passenger service began in 1913. Spearwood didn't gain a station platform until after 1923. It was the last station on the line to get a platform. Passenger services ceased on the line in the 1950s, running after that time for only special occasions such as the Perth Royal Show, for employees of the Watsonia factory. Rockingham Road
Rockingham Road was a football stadium in Kettering, Northamptonshire, England. It was home to Kettering Town F.C. from 1897 until 2011. At the time of its closure, the ground had a capacity of 6,264, of which 1,800 was seated. In September 2017, the land was sold by the owner, Ben Pickering Limited. The site was first identified as a potential site for housing in 2005 by the local authority, and press reports indicated that the new owner was likely to use the land for a housing development. During November 2017, the entire stadium and associated structures were demolished and the site cleared for redevelopment. Armadale Railway Station, Perth
Armadale Station is a railway station on the South Western Railway, 30 kilometres from Perth station serving the suburb of Armadale, Brookdale and Haynes. It is the terminating point for Transperth Armadale line services and a calling point for Transwa ''Australind'' services. History The original station opened on 2 May 1893 when the South Western Railway opened from Claisebrook to Pinjarra. As part of the electrification of the line in the early 1990s, a new station was built with the former signal box relocated to the Armadale Tourist Centre. On 6 November 2004 another new station opened. On 15 July 1907 Armadale became a junction station when the Spearwood-Armadale line opened. This line closed on 23 January 1964. 1987 America's Cup
The 1987 America's Cup was the twenty-sixth challenge for the America's Cup. The American challenger '' Stars & Stripes 87'', sailed by Dennis Conner, beat the Australian defender '' Kookaburra III'', sailed by Iain Murray, in a four-race sweep in the best of seven series. Conner thus became the first person both to lose the America's Cup and then to win it back. The series was held in Gage Roads off Fremantle, Western Australia during the Australian summer months between October 1986 and February 1987. The Royal Perth Yacht Club was the defending club and the organiser of the defence series. Yacht Club Costa Smeralda of Porto Cervo, Sardinia was appointed the challenger of record and hence the organiser of the challenger series. Kwinana Railway Line
The Kwinana freight railway lines are a network of railways predominantly servicing the heavy industrial areas at Kwinana Beach south of Perth and to provide for the transport of freight servicing Fremantle Harbour, Kewdale Intermodal Facility and other freight destinations Perth. While some lines were constructed in the 1900s, most of the network was constructed in the 1950s and 1960s. Perth Royal Show
The Perth Royal Show is an annual agricultural show held in Perth, Western Australia at the Claremont Showground. It features informational exhibits, agricultural competitions and animal showcases, a sideshow alley and rides, and showbags. It has been held for over 100 years and is organised by the Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia. It is held during the spring school holidays, either during the last week of September or the first week of October and at its peak, attracted attendance of around 460,000 people. South Western Railway, Western Australia
The South Western Railway, also known as the South West Main Line, is the main railway route between Perth and Bunbury in Western Australia. History Construction The South Western Railway was constructed for the Western Australian Government Railways (WAGR) by various private contractors from 1891. Among these was the engineer and magistrate William W. L. Owen. Construction was completed in two parts. The first, East Perth to Pinjarra, was undertaken by William Atkins (former mill manager of the Neil McNeil Co. at the Jarrahdale Timber Station) and Robert Oswald Law (who built the Fremantle Long Jetty) from the end of 1891. Work began in 1892 but was slowed by difficulties with building the bridge over the Swan River. This section opened on 22 May 1893.
