Camp Spaulding, California
Lake Spaulding Dam (National ID # CA00358) is a dam in Nevada County, California. Owned and operated by Pacific Gas & Electric for hydroelectric power generation, the -high dam was designed by John R. Freeman and completed in 1913 . It impounds the South Fork of the Yuba River, which originates near Donner Pass. At the time of construction it was the highest dam in California, and one of ten PG&E hydroelectric facilities. A temporary camp called Camp Spaulding, California was established to house workers on the dam during its construction. Lake Spaulding, the reservoir created by the dam, has a capacity of and supports recreational camping, boating, fishing, and underwater diving. It is located on the west side of Eagle Lake, 2.1 miles (3.4 km) east-northeast of Whaleback Mountain and 3 miles (4.8 km) northeast of Eagle Lodge, at an elevation of 5138 feet (1566 m). Its population is 206 as of the 2020 census, up from 178 from the 2010 census. In 1914, John S. Spalding laid out the town. The place was subdivided in 1924. Spaulding Mountain is a mountain located in Franklin County, Maine. Spaulding Mountain is flanked to the northeast by Sugarloaf Mountain, and to the southeast by Mount Abraham. The northeast and south sides of Spaulding Mountain drain into Rapid Stream, then into the West Branch of the Carrabassett River, the Kennebec River, and into the Gulf of Maine. The west side of Spaulding drains into the South Branch of the Carrabassett River. The Appalachian Trail, a National Scenic Trail from Georgia to Maine, crosses Spaulding, passing below the summit. Spaulding was used as an automobile marque by two separate companies. The Spaulding Automobile and Motor Company of Buffalo, New York built Veteran Era automobiles in 1902 and 1903. Spaulding Manufacturing Company of Grinnell, Iowa built Brass Era automobiles from 1910 to 1916. The Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital is a 132-bed rehabilitation teaching hospital located in Boston, Massachusetts. Spaulding Turnpike
The Spaulding Turnpike is a north-south toll road in eastern New Hampshire. Nearly its entire length is overlapped by New Hampshire Route 16. Its southern terminus is at the Portsmouth Traffic Circle (Interstate 95 / U.S. Route 1 Bypass) in Portsmouth, a terminus it shares with U.S. Route 4 and NH 16. Its northern terminus is at an interchange with New Hampshire Route 125 in Milton, where NH 16 continues north as a full-access highway. The turnpike roughly parallels the Maine border.
