Sparkman School District
Sparkman School District No. 4 or the Sparkman School System was a school district headquartered in Sparkman, Arkansas. Its schools were Sparkman Elementary School and Sparkman High School. History In 1965 the Dallas County School District dissolved, with a portion of the students going to the Sparkman school district. By 2004 new laws were passed requiring school districts with enrollments below 350 to consolidate with other school districts. Sparkman was one of several districts that were unable to find another district willing to consolidate with it, so the Arkansas Board of Education was to forcibly consolidate it. On July 1, 2004, it consolidated into the Harmony Grove School District of Camden. " |

Sparkman is a city in Dallas County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 427 at the 2010 census, down from 586 in 2000. History Sparkman was established between 1911 and 1913 and was named after sawmill owner Lemuel "Pete" Sparkman. In 1915, the ''Sparkman News'' was established, Sparkman's first election was held, and electricity was installed. The first school in Sparkman was a two-story building with an enrollment of 132. H.O. Theatt was the first principal, with Miss Ethel Fite and Miss Ella Adams being the first teachers. A Baptist church was organized in 1914, with Methodist and A.M.E. churches organizing in 1916. Geography Sparkman is located in western Dallas County at (33.917201, -92.848763). Arkansas Highway 128 passes through the center of town as Main Street and leads southeast to Highway 9 at Holly Springs. Camden is a city in and the county seat of Ouachita County in the south-central part of the U.S. state of Arkansas. The city is located about 100 miles south of Little Rock. Situated on bluffs overlooking the Ouachita River, the city developed because of the river. The recorded history began in 1782 when a Spanish military post was established on the site of an old French trading post called ''Écore à Fabri.'' When Ouachita County was formed in 1842, American settlers changed the name to Camden.
