Helen Margaret Spanton
Helen Margaret Spanton (15 September 1877 – 17 September 1934) was a British artist and suffragette. Portrait and figure painter Helen Margaret Spanton was born at 16 Abbeygate Street, Bury St Edmunds, the eldest child of William Silas Spanton, an artist, art historian and photographer, and his wife Sarah (née Pechey). Helen Spanton, who was always known as "Madge" by family and friends, grew up in an artistic household; her father had many friends who were artists, some from his student days at the Royal Academy schools where he was sponsored by Sir Edwin Landseer. Helen’s studied art firstly at the Royal Female School of Art in London and from 1896 to 1899 at the Slade School of Art where her teachers included Frederick Brown, Philip Wilson Steer and Henry Tonks.  During her years at The Slade, William Orpen was the star student and some of Spanton’s paintings reflect his influence.  On leaving The Slade, Helen studied in Paris with her friend the artist Rose Mead. ...

Tim Spanton
Tim Spanton is a British journalist and amateur international chess player. Born in 1957, he was educated at Churcher's College, Petersfield, Hampshire, Guildford College, Surrey, and Highbury College, Portsmouth. Career He passed a one-year pre-entry journalism course at Highbury College, Portsmouth, before completing his indentures on the Sharman newspaper group's Ely Standard and Cambridgeshire Times. He worked on the Doncaster Evening Post and The News, Portsmouth, before joining the ''News of the World'' in 1987. In April 1990, he launched the Captain Cash page (later called William Wallets in Scotland), which set a world record for a newspaper column by attracting 500,000 letters in the first eight months (1). In 1997 he joined ''The Sun (United Kingdom), The Sun'' where he has become well known for his stunts. In 2002 Spanton was in charge of launching ''The Sun's'' first Page 3 Idol contest.
