Aaron Spangler (born 1971, Minneapolis, Minnesota) is a sculptor and printmaker who lives and works in Park Rapids, Minnesota. Life He attended the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, earning his BFA degree in 1993. He is represented by Horton Gallery in New York City. Spangler's sculptures typically consist of carved solid blocks of basswood that are finished with coats of black gesso and graphite. Spangler carves his sculptures using mallets, chisels, and a Dremel-style rotary tool. Ken Johnson commented that, ""You don't see much wood carving in elite Chelsea galleries. An antiquated craft with little relevance to modern technologies of communication or to a competitive, fast-paced contemporary art market...so it is exciting to come upon the large, intricate reliefs". Jenny Spangler (born July 20, 1963) is an American long-distance runner. She competed in Atlanta, GA in the women's marathon at the 1996 Summer Olympics, but dropped out, along with 20 other women. By virtue of winning the Olympic Trials in 2:29:54, she was also the 1996 United States National Champion in the Marathon. Robert Spangler (January 10, 1933 – August 5, 2001) was a serial killer who murdered his first wife, son, daughter, and his third wife. On the morning of December 30, 1978, in Arapahoe County, Colorado, Robert Spangler lured his wife, Nancy, into the basement with the promise of a "surprise" and shot her in the head with a revolver. Going upstairs, he shot his teenage children, Susan and David; David was slow in dying, so Spangler smothered him with a pillow. Dr. Paul E. Spangler (March 18, 1899 – March 29, 1994) was a retired U.S. Navy surgeon, who took up the sport of running at the age of 67. Early life Spangler was born on March 18, 1899, in Oregon. He graduated from the University of Oregon and the Harvard Medical School. He joined the Navy for World War II. He was Chief of Surgery at the naval hospital near Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
