Spain has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 61 times since making its debut in , where they finished ninth. Since , Spain has been one of the " Big Five" countries, along with , , and the , that are automatically prequalified for the final each year as they are the biggest financial contributors to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Spain has competed in the contest continuously since the country's debut in 1961. The only country with a longer run of uninterrupted Eurovision appearances is the United Kingdom, ever-present since 1959. Spain has won the contest twice, first in with the song "La, la, la" sung by Massiel and again in , when Salomé's "Vivo cantando" was involved in a four-way tie with , the and the . The Corporación de Radio y Televisión Española, S.A. Spain participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 with the song "I Love You Mi Vida" written by Thomas G:son, Andreas Rickstrand, Tony Sánchez-Ohlsson, Rebeca Pous Del Toro. The song was performed by the group D'Nash. The Spanish broadcaster Televisión Española (TVE) organised the national final ''Misión Eurovisión 2007'' in order to select the Spanish entry for the 2007 contest in Helsinki, Finland. The national final consisted of four heats, a semi-final and a final and involved 57 competing acts. Five acts and five songs ultimately qualified to compete in the televised final where a public televote first selected the top five to advance to the second round. ''Star Academy'', called ''Operación Triunfo'' ("Operation Triumph") in Spanish-speaking countries, is a highly successful television pop music talent contest with viewer voting and reality show elements. Format There are many versions of the ''Star Academy'' or ''Operación Triunfo'' show, each country having its own slight variations, but the basic concept remains the same: contestants live in a boarding-school called "The Academy", managed by a director, and various teachers coach them in several artistic disciplines. Spain took part in the Eurovision Song Contest 1971. The country was represented by Karina with the song "En un mundo nuevo". Karina was selected through the competition ''Pasaporte a Dublín'' ("Passport to Dublin"), and the song she would sing in Dublin was internally chosen once the national final was over. The music was composed by Rafael Trabucchelli and the lyrics written by Tony Luz. Ramón del Castillo Palop (born 3 May 1985) is a Spanish singer best known for representing Spain at the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest in Istanbul. Biography Ramón was born on 3 May 1985 in Las Palmas in the Canary Islands, the youngest of three boys.
