Soyuzivka
Soyuzivka Heritage Center (Ukrainian: Союзівка), also known as Soyuzivka, Suzi-Q, or the Q, is a Ukrainian cultural center located in the hamlet of Kerhonkson, New York in Ulster County, in the Shawangunk Ridge area south of the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York. Soyuzivka hosts children's heritage camps, Ukrainian dance camps, workshops, seminars, festivals, concerts, dance recitals and art exhibits for those interested in learning about Ukraine and its culture. Soyuzivka's mission is to promote, preserve and share the Ukrainian culture. With its programs, Soyuzivka aims to instill pride in Ukrainian heritage among Ukrainian North American youth and to showcase Ukrainian culture to a North American audience. The Ukrainian National Association (UNA) ( uk, Український народний союз), known before 1914 as the Ruthenian National Union ( uk, Руський Народний Союз), is a North American fraternal organization founded in Shamokin, Pennsylvania on February 22, 1894 when the first wave of immigrants from the territories of today's Western Ukraine came to the United States and Canada. Kerhonkson is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Ulster County, New York, United States. The population was 1,684 at the 2010 census. The Kerhonkson CDP is an urban concentration that straddles the border of the town of Rochester and the town of Wawarsing, with the larger portion in Rochester. US 209 is the hamlet's main artery. The western terminus of US 44 / NY 55 is at Route 209 in the Wawarsing portion of the Kerhonkson CDP. Wawarsing, New York
Wawarsing is a town in Ulster County, New York, United States. The population was 12,771 at the 2020 census. The name Wawarsing was once believed to mean "a place where the streams wind" in the Lenape language, referring to the geography in the hamlet of Wawarsing. Specifically, the joining of the Ver Nooy Kill and the Rondout Creek at Port Ben. The name Wawarsing was used by the Lenape to designate the current hamlet and the fields to the north and south of it for at least six miles in both directions. It is the only Lenape name known to refer to an exact location in Ulster County. The town is in the western part of the county. The southern and easternmost portions are on the Shawangunk Ridge. Liuboslav Hutsaliuk (first name also variously spelled Lubomyr, Luboslau, Ljuboslav, or shortened to Lubo and surname also spelled Hucaljuk) (2 April 1923 in Lviv – 16 December 2003 in New York City) was a Ukrainian-American painter, graphic artist, cartoonist and caricaturist.
