Sovereign Award For Champion Older Male Horse
The Canadian Champion Older Male Horse is a Canadian Thoroughbred horse racing honour. Created in 1975 by the Jockey Club of Canada, it is part of the Sovereign Awards program and is awarded annually to the top horse four years or older competing in Canada. The award was renamed to Champion Older Main Track Male before the 2019 Sovereign Awards. Norcliffe By Bob Demuyser
Norcliffe (1973–1984) was a Canadian Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame, Hall of Fame Thoroughbred Horse racing, racehorse. He was sired by National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, U.S. Hall of Fame Champion Buckpasser out of the mare Drama School by Northern Dancer. Owned by the Norcliffe Stable of Charles Franklyn Baker, Charles F. Baker, Chairman of the Board of the Ontario Jockey Club, Norcliffe was trained by Roger Attfield. Ridden by jockey Jeffrey Fell, Norcliffe won two of the first three legs of the 1976 Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing#Canada, Canadian Triple Crown races on dirt at Woodbine Racetrack, capturing the Queen's Plate and the Prince of Wales Stakes. The Breeders' Stakes, the final leg, is a race run on the grass course at Fort Erie Race Track and Norcliffe finished fifth. "Let's Go Blue" is a short song most often associated with the University of Michigan, but widely performed during high school and professional sports as well. It was composed by Joe Carl and first arranged by Albert Ahronheim in the 1970s. The song consists of 32 bars and is 40 seconds long. History The melody to "Let's Go Blue" was written by Joe Carl, with various dates given for its composition is 1974 or later, including 1975 and 1976. Carl, who at the time of the song's composition was an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan and tuba player in the Michigan Marching Band, improvised the melody as a "time-out ditty" for use during a hockey game at Yost Ice Arena. Sky Classic
Sky Classic (March 17, 1987 – April 30, 2015) was a Canadian Thoroughbred Hall of Fame racehorse. A son of U.K. Triple Crown champion Nijinsky, in 1989 Sky Classic won the Sovereign Award for Champion 2-Year-Old Male Horse in Canada but injuries kept him out for the most of the 1990 racing season. Back racing on grass in 1991, Sky Classic won six of his nine starts including the prestigious Rothmans International in course record time. The following year with Pat Day riding, he set a new race record in the Arlington Handicap, defeated Fraise in the Turf Classic Invitational at Belmont Park, but lost his two biggest races that year, a second in the Arlington Million to Dear Doctor, and another second by a nose to Fraise in the Breeders' Cup Turf. However, his five other wins that year earned him the 1992 United States Eclipse Award for Outstanding Male Turf Horse.
