Southwind Drum And Bugle Corps
Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps is an Open Class competitive junior drum and bugle corps based in Mobile, Alabama. The corps was a Division I (now World Class) competitive junior drum and bugle corps in Drum Corps International (DCI) from 1993 through 2007. Prior to competing in Division I, Southwind competed in DCI's Class A/Division II and was that division's World Champion in 1991 and 1992. Southwind performed at competitive and non-competitive SoundSport events in Alabama and surrounding states during the summer of 2014. In early May 2015, DCI approved Southwind's return as an active Open Class corps. History ''Sources:'' Southwind was founded in 1980 by Michael D. Southwind Rail Travel Limited is a leasing company that provides locomotives and rolling stock to railroad companies. Southwind began service in 1983, operating a heritage railroad passenger excursion train on a 35-mile route in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania that was owned by the Pocono Northeast Railroad. USCGC ''Southwind'' (WAGB-280) was a that served in the United States Coast Guard as USCGC ''Southwind'' (WAG-280), the Soviet Navy as the ''Admiral Makarov'', the United States Navy as USS ''Atka'' (AGB-3) and again in the U.S. Coast Guard as USCGC ''Southwind'' (WAGB-280). Construction ''Southwind'' was the third of the of icebreakers operated by the United States Coast Guard. Her keel was laid on 20 July 1942 at the Western Pipe and Steel Company shipyards in San Pedro, California, she was christened by Mrs. Ona Jones and launched on 8 March 1943, and commissioned on 15 July 1944. Her hull was of unprecedented strength and structural integrity, with a relatively short length in proportion to the great power developed, a cut away forefoot, rounded bottom, and fore, aft and side heeling tanks.
