Southern Wesleyan University is a private Christian university in Central, South Carolina. It was founded in 1906 by what is now the Wesleyan Church. The institution is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. The university offers approximately 35 major areas of study for undergraduates and also offers graduate and doctoral degrees in the areas of business and education. The university serves approximately 1,600 students. There are more than 800 undergraduates enrolled at the main campus in Central, South Carolina. In addition, undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs are offered in a fully online format. Gareth Lee Cockerill
Gareth Lee Cockerill (born in 1944) taught at Wesley Biblical Seminary from 1984 until 2017 where he held the post of Academic Dean and Professor of Biblical Interpretation and Theology. He is also an ordained minister in the Wesleyan Church. In the past he has served as a missionary in Sierra Leone, West Africa. Career Cockerill was educated at Southern Wesleyan University (B.A.), Asbury Theological Seminary (M.Div.) and Union Presbyterian Seminary, Union Theological Seminary (Th.M. & Ph.D.). He has written a new volume on Hebrews in the New International Commentary on the New Testament series. Although replacing the classic commentary in that series by F. F. Bruce it has been well received by scholars and pastors alike.
