Southern Shore Region
The Southern Shore Region is located in the South Jersey region of New Jersey. It is one of six tourism regions established by the New Jersey State Department of Tourism, the others are the Gateway Region, Greater Atlantic City, the Delaware River Region, the Shore Region. and the Skylands Region. The area includes Cape May County and Cumberland County. The coast is along the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Bay, while the inland areas are part of the New Jersey Pine Barrens. Wetlands Cape May New Jersey
A wetland is a distinct ecosystem that is flooded or saturated by water, either permanently (for years or decades) or seasonally (for weeks or months). Flooding results in oxygen-free (anoxic) processes prevailing, especially in the soils. The primary factor that distinguishes wetlands from terrestrial land forms or Body of water, water bodies is the characteristic vegetation of aquatic plants, adapted to the unique anoxic hydric soils. The Wildwoods
The Wildwoods are a group of five communities (four distinct municipalities and one census-designated place) in Cape May County, New Jersey. These are situated on the Island of Five Mile Beach, a barrier island facing the Atlantic Ocean. Higbee Beach Wildlife Management Area
Higbee Beach Wildlife Management Area is a wildlife management area in Lower Township, Cape May County, New Jersey. Geography Higbee Beach features a mile and a half of pristine shoreline from New England Road to Sunset Boulevard. There are six locales at the Wildlife Management Area: Signal Hill, Davey’s Lake, Pond Creek, Sassafras Island, Hidden Valley, and the Magnesite Plant. The Hidden Valley farm was a 92-acre farm that was sold to New Jersey in 1986 and incorporated in Higbee Beach. Part of the farm is used for equestrian activities. Davey's Lake, which is 300 yards long, 90 yards wide, and 12 feet deep, was dug in 1910 by the Cape May Sand Company. The Wetlands Institute is a non-profit organization started in 1969 by the executive director of WWF, Herbert Mills. The Wetlands Institute sits on 6,000 acres (24 km²) of protected wetlands in Stone Harbor, New Jersey. Corson's Inlet State Park
Corson's Inlet State Park was established by the New Jersey Legislature in 1969 to protect and preserve one of the last undeveloped tracts of land along the state's oceanfront. The park borders Corson Inlet. The area's natural habitats are teeming with wildlife established in the numerous primary and secondary sand dune systems, shoreline overwash, marine estuaries, and upland areas. County Route 552 (New Jersey)
County Route 552 (CR 552) is a county highway in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The highway extends from Laurel Street (Cumberland County Route 606) in Bridgeton to Harding Highway ( U.S. Route 40) in Hamilton Township. Route description CR 552 begins at an intersection with CR 606 in Bridgeton, Cumberland County, heading east on two-lane undivided Irving Avenue. At the next intersection, the route crosses Route 77 and passes homes and businesses, crossing a Winchester and Western Railroad line before reaching intersections with CR 669 and CR 638 in more residential surroundings. A short distance after the CR 638 intersection, the road crosses into Upper Deerfield Township and enters more rural areas of development, turning east into a mix of farms and woods at the CR 654 junction. New Jersey Route 47
Route 47 is a state highway in the southern part of New Jersey. It runs from Atlantic Avenue in Wildwood, Cape May County north to U.S. Route 130 in Brooklawn, Camden County. It is also referred to as Delsea Drive, as it connects the Delaware River near Brooklawn to the Atlantic Ocean (the sea) in Wildwood. This name was assigned by the New Jersey Legislature in 1933. The route runs through rural areas of Cape May and southern Cumberland counties as a two-lane road. A drive-in theater or drive-in cinema is a form of cinema structure consisting of a large outdoor movie screen, a projection booth, a concession stand, and a large parking area for automobiles. Within this enclosed area, customers can view movies from the privacy and comfort of their cars. Some drive-ins have small playgrounds for children and a few picnic tables or benches. The screen can be as simple as a painted white wall, or it can be a steel truss structure with a complex finish. Cape May Seashore Lines
Cape May Seashore Lines is a short line railroad in southern New Jersey. It offers two excursion services: a round trip between Richland and Tuckahoe and a round trip between Rio Grande, Cold Spring Village, and Cape May City. The track is owned by NJ Transit and leased to the Seashore Lines. Connections are provided with Conrail's Beesley's Point Secondary, owned jointly by CSX and Norfolk Southern, at the north end in Tuckahoe. Tony Macrie has been president of the Seashore Lines since he formed the railroad in 1984. CMSL operates both freight trains and excursion trains. Bear Swamp is a swamp in Cumberland County, New Jersey, Cumberland County, southwestern New Jersey, notable for its of old-growth forests and the birds they contain. It is divided into two areas, Bear Swamp East and Bear Swamp West, separated from each other by gravel mines and roads. Bear Swamp West Bear Swamp West contains Broadleaf forest, broadleaf swamp forest dominated by Nyssa sylvatica, black gum, American sweetgum, red maple, and sweetbay magnolia. Other trees present are American beech, swamp white oak, and American holly. Some of this forest is old-growth filled with trees of impressive sizes and ages.
