Southern Records
Founded 1992 by John Loder, Southern Records is an independent record label (Loder also ran the recording facility Southern Studios). It is based in London and until 2008 had offices in the United States, France and Berlin. The label is closely associated with Crass Records, Corpus Christi Records and Dischord Records. History Background Southern Studios was a recording label owned and operated by John Loder from the 1970's until his death. Loder became friends with musician Penny Rimbaud and collaborated with him in an experimental band called EXIT. Rimbaud later formed anarchist punk band Crass, and Loder and his Southern Studios were chosen to record their first album ''The Feeding of the 5000''. John Loder (sound Engineer)
John F. Loder (7 April 1946 – 12 August 2005) was an English sound engineer, record producer and founder of Southern Studios, as well as a former member of EXIT and co-founder of the Southern Records distribution company with his wife Sue. He was also the studio engineer of choice for Crass and Crass Records, and was often considered to be the band's "ninth member". Loder was born near Plymouth and educated at boarding school before studying electrical engineering at London's City University. During his post-graduate work there, he became involved in early experiments in digital encoding of audio for the military. By 1970 he had joined EXIT, alongside Penny Rimbaud, utilising a one-track tape-recorder. This led to Loder eventually founding a record studio in his garage after the disbanding of EXIT in 1974. Le Havre (, ; nrf, Lé Hâvre ) is a port city in the Seine-Maritime department in the Normandy region of northern France. Boduf Songs is the stage name of Southampton electro-acoustic musician Mat Sweet. Sweet first began recording as Boduf Songs in 2004, using field recordings in addition to recordings he made at home. He self-released these as a CD-R and Kranky Records reissued the album in 2005. at Three further albums followed on Kranky. Billy Mahonie
Billy Mahonie is a British post-rock band. History British instrumental rock quartet Billy Mahonie formed in London in 1997. The original line-up consisted of Gavin Baker (guitar), Howard Monk (drums), Hywell Dinsdale (bass and guitar) and Kevin Penney (bass). Their first release was on the Fierce Panda record label, a split-single with Rothko, followed by a release on the Fierce Panda offshoot Livid Meerkat and an EP on Gold Hole Recordings. At the start of 1999 the band signed with Too Pure, who released their debut album ''The Big Dig'' produced by Head. That year they also recorded their first of two Peel Sessions, and toured Europe. Bell Gardens is the musical collaboration between Kenneth James Gibson and Brian McBride. Through the music of Bell Gardens, they explore the many realms of chamber pop, folk rock, psychedelic pop, and Americana. Atombombpocketknife was an American indie rock band from Chicago. The band featured Che Arthur on guitar and released three full-length albums between 2000 and 2004. History Atombombpocketknife formed in 1997 and toured regionally before releasing a 7" record on File 13 Records and then a 10" on Southern Records in 1999. Antisect are a punk rock band based in London, England. Their roots are in hardcore/ anarcho punk and metal. Formed in Daventry in 1982, their debut album, ''In Darkness There Is No Choice'', was released in 1983. 1985's follow-up EP ''Out from the Void'' has often been cited as a game changer amongst their genre for fusing a raw punk rock style with elements of metal. Antisect are a significant band in the timeline of hardcore punk music, said to have been a major influence upon "black-clad, politically charged punks over the last 30 years".
