The Southern Mallee Giants Football Club is an Australian rules football club which competes in the Wimmera Football League (WFL). It is based in the town of Hopetoun, Victoria. History The club was the result of a merger of the Hopetoun and the Beulah football clubs in 2014 and competed in the last year of the Mallee Football League in 2015. The league was reduced to five clubs and was deemed uneconomical to continue. The club was accepted into the Horsham District Football League for the 2016 season., Southern Mallee It won the premiership and again the following years. Its two years saw it undefeated with a winning streak of 36 games. Wimmera Football League
The Wimmera Football League is a major Australian rules country league based in Western Victoria, with clubs located in towns in the Wimmera region: the regional centres along the Western Highway from Ararat to Nhill as well as Minyip-Murtoa and Warracknabeal. History A Wimmera Football Association was first formed in 1902, with teams from Ararat, Horsham and Stawell as the founding clubs. In 1921 the Wimmera District Football League was formed. The seven original clubs were Ararat, Horsham, Minyip, Murtoa, Rupanyup, Stawell and Warracknabael. Dimboola joined in 1923 and Nhill in 1925; Ararat spent six years in the Ballarat Football League from 1924 to 1929. In 1932, during the height of the Great Depression, the small town clubs were suffering from financial pressures, and tried to get the league to change the way the gate taking were distributed to the clubs. Hopetoun is a town which serves as the major service centre for the Southern Mallee area of Victoria, Australia. Beulah, Victoria
Beulah is a town in the southern Mallee region of Victoria, Australia. The town is in the Shire of Yarriambiack local government area, 395 kilometres north-west of the state capital, Melbourne. At the 2016 census, Beulah had a population of 329. History The town's name is taken from the Book of Isaiah, 62:4. In some English translations the word is given as "married" or "inhabited". Beulah was established on land that was once part of Brim station. Closer settlement began in the 1880s and the town site was proclaimed in 1891. A Post Office opened on May 6, 1891, and the railway from Warracknabeal opened on 5 January 1893. The line to Hopetoun opened on 6 March 1894.
