Southern Cricket League
The Southern Premier Cricket League is the top level of competition for recreational club cricket in central southern England. The League was founded in 1969 under the name Southern Cricket League, and in 2000 it adopted the name Southern Premier Cricket League when it became an ECB Premier League. The league primarily covers Hampshire, but also has clubs from Dorset, Isle of Wight, Surrey, West Sussex, and Wiltshire. In the past there have also been clubs from Berkshire. The league runs a Premier Division, Division One, Division Two and a Division Three. Hampshire Cricket Board
The Hampshire Cricket Board (HCB) was formed in 1996 and is the governing body for all recreational cricket in the Historic counties of England, historic county of Hampshire. Following a restructuring in January 2010, the HCB now operates as a limited company. History and role The Board's aim is to nurture the game of cricket at a recreational level, increase the levels of participation in cricket, identify and nurture future county players, and provide players with the opportunities to advance to the highest level of the game. Three years after the HCB was formed, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) reformed the NatWest Trophy by allowing all twenty Minor counties of English and Welsh cricket, Minor counties and the cricket boards of all first-class cricket, first-class English counties. South Wilts Cricket Club
South Wilts Cricket Club is an English amateur cricket club based in the cathedral city of Salisbury, Wiltshire. South Wilts is one of Wiltshire's leading cricket clubs, having won the Southern Premier Cricket League five times along with a hat-trick of T20 victories from 2013 to 2015. On Saturdays it runs four senior men's teams along with numerous junior boys', women's and girls' sides on other days of the week. Home matches are played at the Salisbury and South Wiltshire Sports Club ground, which is in the Bemerton area of Salisbury. The ground currently hosts Wiltshire CCC matches and is also used for county representative fixtures and ECB Finals Days. Portsmouth Cricket Club
The purpose of this list is to identify all historically significant English cricket clubs and teams which played in significant matches, some of which may have been given first-class status. It concentrates on those which are now defunct or not currently significant. The list, therefore, excludes County Championship clubs, Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), touring teams and the main university clubs. Clubs in the Minor Counties Cricket Championship or in one of the ECB Premier Leagues are excluded unless they formerly played in important or first-class matches. Hursley Park Cricket Club
Hursley is a village and civil parish in Hampshire, England with a population of around 900 in 2011. It is located roughly midway between Romsey and Winchester on the A3090. Besides the village the parish includes the hamlets of Standon and Pitt and the outlying settlement at Farley Chamberlayne. History 12th to 17th century The earliest references to Hursley date from the late 12th century; Bishop of Winchester Henry de Blois built a manor house called Merdon Castle, within the parish, in 1138. In the 14th century the hundred of Buddlesgate expanded to include Hursley parish and surrounding dependencies. Hursley continued in the ownership of the Bishop of Winchester until 1552 when it was surrendered to king Edward VI. The buildings had become ruinous by the 16th century, when Edward Vl granted the manor and park at Hursley to Sir Philip Hoby. Bournemouth () is a coastal resort town in the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole council area of Dorset, England. Fair Oak
Fair Oak is a large village to the east of Eastleigh in Hampshire, England. Together with the village of Horton Heath, which lies to the south, it is part of the civil parish of Fair Oak and Horton Heath. History Fair Oak takes its name from a tree in the Square which was felled and replaced on 30 February 1843. A fair took place under the tree in June every year until 1918, and local historians believe this provided the tree, and subsequently the village around it, with its name. Documentary evidence exists of a settlement in the area called Cnolgette in 901 AD.
