Southbridge, New Zealand
Southbridge is a small town on the Canterbury Plains in the South Island of New Zealand. It is located southwest of Christchurch, between Leeston, Dunsandel and the Rakaia River. The town serves mainly as a centre for agricultural services, but also has nearly 70 small to medium-sized businesses, a swimming pool, tennis courts, Southbridge Primary School, and many other attractions. On 13 July 1875, a branch line railway was opened from Christchurch to Southbridge. Despite proposals to extend it further to Longbeach, New Zealand, Longbeach and Waterton, New Zealand, Waterton, the line's terminus remained in Southbridge and it was thus known as the Southbridge Branch (New Zealand), Southbridge Branch. Southbridge Branch, New Zealand
The Southbridge Branch was a branch line railway that formed part of New Zealand's national rail network. It was located in the Canterbury region of the South Island and operated from 1875 until 1967. Five kilometres of the line remains open as the Hornby Branch, formerly the Hornby Industrial Line. Construction On 2 November 1870, the Canterbury provincial government resolved to build a line from Rolleston to Southbridge, as the district around Lake Ellesmere had become an economically significant grain-growing region that produced almost a quarter of all wheat in New Zealand in the late 1860s. Southbridge District High School
The Southbridge District High School was a school in New Zealand until 1981. History The Southbridge Primary School which is still in use today, based in Southbridge, New Zealand, was founded in 1868 with a roll of 20 students. The school was enlarged and reached its greatest number of students (389) in 1890. The Southbridge District High School was opened in 1903 and used some of the Primary School buildings. It continued with the Primary and High school merged until 23 October 1924 when the buildings were destroyed by a suspicious fire. The Southbridge District High School was rebuilt on the original site, whilst the Primary School rebuilt on the opposite side of the street. South Bridge, Edinburgh
South Bridge is a road bridge and street in Edinburgh, Scotland, between the High Street and Chambers Street/Infirmary Street. It extends to North Bridge at the north and Nicolson Street at the south, forming a level roadway over the steep valley scoured parallel to the High Street when the crag and tail landscape was formed. The Cowgate roadway along the bottom of the valley runs under the largest arch of the bridge. The South Bridge Act 1785 was passed in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom on 21 April 1785 and in 1789 taxes were raised to fund the South Bridge to a plan prepared by Robert Adam. The bridge was completed in 1788. Southbridge is a city in Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 17,740 at the 2020 census. Although Southbridge has a city form of government, it is legally known as the Town of Southbridge. History The area was initially inhabited by the Nipmuck and Mohegan tribes, with the Quinebaug River dividing their territories. As early as 1638, John Winthrop, Jr. purchased Tantiusques, a tract for mining lead centered at what is now Leadmine Road in Sturbridge (it was thought at the time that where there was lead, there should be silver nearby). __NOTOC__ Southbridge Towers is a big housing cooperative development located in the Civic Center neighborhood of Lower Manhattan, New York City. The complex was built between 1961 and 1971 by Tishman Realty & Construction as a subsidized co-op under the Mitchell-Lama housing program. It is situated south of the entrance ramp to the Brooklyn Bridge between Pearl, Gold, Fulton and Frankfort streets. Southbridge consists of four 27-story towers and five 6-story buildings, which collectively include 1,651 apartments with a total of of floor area. In October 2005, the cooperative's board of directors voted to undertake a study that could cost up to $25,000 to explore privatization of the building complex. The John Harris Bridge is a steel girder multilane highway bridge that carries Interstate 83 and the Capital Beltway across the Susquehanna River at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, connecting the East and West Shores of metropolitan Harrisburg.
