Southampton City Council Elections
Southampton City Council elections are held three out of every four years to elect members of Southampton City Council, the local authority for the city of Southampton in Hampshire, England. Since 1 April 1997 Southampton has been a unitary authority responsible for all local government functions; prior to this it was a non-metropolitan district beneath Hampshire County Council. Southampton City Council is made up of 48 councillors, with three councillors representing each of 16 wards. One councillor from each ward is elected each May on a four-year cycle, with no elections in the fourth year. Southampton City Council is the local authority of the city of Southampton. It is a Unitary authorities of England, unitary authority, having the powers of a non-metropolitan county and district council combined. 2002 Southampton City Council Election
The 2002 Southampton Council election took place on 2 May 2002 to elect members of Southampton Unitary Council in Hampshire, England. The whole council was up for election with boundary changes since the last election in 2000 increasing the number of seat by 3. The council stayed under no overall control. 2000 Southampton City Council Election
The 2000 Southampton Council election took place on 4 May 2000 to elect members of Southampton Unitary Council in Hampshire, England. One third of the council was up for election and the Labour Party lost overall control of the council to no overall control. After the election, the composition of the council was: *Labour 22 *Liberal Democrat 16 *Conservative 7 Election result The results saw Labour lose their majority on the council for the first time in 13 years after both the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats made gains. The Conservatives gained the seats of Harefield, Shirley and St Lukes from Labour, with the winner in St Lukes, Stephen Day, becoming the youngest councillor at the age of 22. The 1999 Southampton Council election took place on 6 May 1999 to elect members of Southampton Unitary Council in Hampshire, England. One third of the council was up for election and the Labour party stayed in overall control of the council. After the election, the composition of the council was *Labour 27 *Liberal Democrat 14 *Conservative 4 Election result The results saw the Labour party stay in control of the council after holding all but one of the seats they had been defending.
