South Ossetian Presidential Election, 2011
Presidential elections were held in South Ossetia on 13 November 2011. A referendum was held on the same day. A run-off was held on 27 November, but the result were invalidated by the Supreme Court of South Ossetia. A new election was scheduled for 25 March 2012. Candidates Incumbent president Eduard Kokoity was constitutionally barred from serving a third term in office. Attempts were made to call a referendum to change the constitution, but this was blocked by the Supreme Court. Another attempt to change the constitution by a two-thirds majority in parliament was blocked by parliamentary chairman and Communist Party of South Ossetia leader Stanislav Kochiev. Kokoity himself stated he had no intention in seeking a third term, and called on everybody to refrain from initiatives to allow him to serve a third term. Alla Dzhioyeva
Alla Aleksandrovna Dzhioyeva ( os, Джиоты Алыксандыры чызг Аллæ / Džioty Alyksandyry čyzg Allæ; russian: Алла Александровна Джиоева; born August 23, 1949) is a South Ossetian teacher turned politician, who is currently Deputy Prime Minister in the South Ossetian government. She previously served as the Education Minister in 2002–2008. She won the 2011 presidential election, but the Supreme Court annulled the results, alleging that electoral fraud had been committed. Early life Alla Dzhioyeva was born on August 23, 1949, in Staliniri, South Ossetian AO, Georgian SSR, Soviet Union (now Tskhinvali, South Ossetia). Having graduated from Ttskhinvali's secondary school № 5, she entered the South Ossetian Pedagogical Institute in 1967, but later transferred to Odessa University, which she finished in 1974 with a degree in philology. Vladimir Kelekhsaev
Vladimir Kelekhsaev is a South Ossetian politician. He has served as the chairman of the political party Unity of the People since its creation. Although not Russophobic, he, and Unity of the People, are Russokeptic, believing Russian interest in South Ossetia as simply a means to control the small de-facto independent republic. He promotes a policy of economic independence and pragmatic foreign policy. Political career Unity of the People was created before the 2011 South Ossetian presidential election and Kelekhsaev stood as their candidate receiving 1,623 votes or 6.65% of the electorate. The Unity Party ( os, Иудзинад, ka, ერთიანობის, russian: Единство; officially, the South Ossetian Republican Political Party "Unity") was a major political party with a socially conservative ideology in South Ossetia during the 2000s. South Ossetia is a partially recognized Caucasian republic, considered by most countries to be a part of Georgia.
