South Hedland or Port Hedland City Centre is a suburb of the Town of Port Hedland, in the Pilbara region in north-western Western Australia. It is the CBD of the Town of Port Hedland and is the Port Hedland Town Centre. It can be reached by the North West Coastal Highway and Great Northern Highway. It contains Hedland Senior High School. The Division of Durack is an Australian Electoral Division in the state of Western Australia. History The Division is named after the pioneering Durack family, upon whom Dame Mary Durack based her popular historical novels. Created to replace parts of the divisions of Kalgoorlie (which was abolished) and O'Connor, it elected its first member at the 2010 election. It was created as a comfortably safe Liberal seat. The Electoral district of Pilbara is a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Western Australia. Pilbara is named for the region of Western Australia in which it is located. The Town of Port Hedland is a local government area in the Pilbara region of Western Australia containing the twin settlements of Port Hedland and South Hedland and the industrial precinct of Wedgefield. North West Coastal Highway
North West Coastal Highway is a generally north-south Western Australian highway which links the coastal city of Geraldton with the town of Port Hedland. The road, constructed as a sealed two-lane single carriageway, travels through remote and largely arid landscapes. Great Northern Highway is an Australian highway that links Western Australia's capital city Perth with its northernmost port, Wyndham. Hedland Senior High School
Hedland Senior High School is a comprehensive public co-educational high day school, located in South Hedland, Western Australia. Overview The school was established in 1964 as a junior high school but became a high school in 1970 and a senior high school in 1971. By 2012 the school had an enrolment of 603 students between Year 8 and Year 12, 35% of whom were Indigenous Australians. Mining company BHP donated 120 laptop computers and eight scholarships to the high school in 2005 as part of the company's $3 million commitment to educational opportunities in the Pilbara region. A fire that was lit under suspicious circumstances broke out in the school’s library in 2008, causing significant damage to the school.
