It can be viewed on Volume 2 of the video series ''The Magic of Irish Set Dancing'' with instruction by the late Connie Ryan. Other published instructions include Terry Moylan's ''Irish Dances'', Pat Murphy's ''Toss the Feathers'' and Tom Quinn's ''Irish Dancing''. Joe O'Hara has two online versions of this set: a 4-couple workshop version and a traditional half set version. Set Dance
A country dance is any of a very large number of social dances of a type that originated in the British Isles; it is the repeated execution of a predefined sequence of figures, carefully designed to fit a fixed length of music, performed by a group of people, usually in couples, in one or more sets. The figures involve interaction with your partner and/or with other dancers, usually with a progression so that you dance with everyone in your set. It is common in modern times to have a "caller" who teaches the dance and then calls the figures as you dance. Country dances are done in many different styles. As a musical form written in or time, the contredanse was used by Beethoven and Mozart. Introduced to South America by French immigrants, Country Dance had great influence upon Latin American music as contradanza. Gort
Gort ( or ) is a town of around 3,000 inhabitants in County Galway in the west of Ireland. Located near the border with County Clare, the town lies between the Burren and the Slieve Aughty and is served by the R458 and R460 regional roads, which connect to the M18 motorway. Etymology Gort is short for the complete Irish name, ''Gort Inse Guaire'' (''gort:'' a meadow, field, ''inse:'' an island, and ''Guaire:'' a proper name) and translates to "field of Guaire's island". History Evidence of ancient settlement in the area includes ringfort, souterrain and holy well sites in the townlands of Gort, Ballyhugh, Cloghnakeava, Cloonnahaha and Lavally. In 2022, a large Bronze Age fort, located in Coole Park, Coole Parke near Gort, was dated between 800 and 1200 BCE during archeological work in the Burren lowlands.
