South Dandalup River
South Dandalup River is a river in the South West region of Western Australia. The river rises at White Horse Hills North of Boddington and flows in westerly direction. The river is in the Shire of Murray; it flows through Lake Banksiadale near Dwellingup, crosses the South Western Highway north of Pinjarra to its confluence with the North Dandalup River east of Ravenswood. The two tributaries of the South Dandalup River are Conjurunup Creek and Boomer Brook. At Lake Banksiadale the river is dammed by South Dandalup Dam, the largest dam providing water to Perth, Western Australia's capital city. Pinjarra is a town in the Peel region of Western Australia along the South Western Highway, from the state capital, Perth and south-east of the coastal city of Mandurah. Its local government area is the Shire of Murray. At the 2016 census, Pinjarra had a population of 4910. Pinjarra is an area rich in history, and is the home town of a former State Premier - Sir Ross McLarty. South Dandalup Dam
South Dandalup Dam is a dam in Western Australia. It is located where the South Dandalup River flows out of Lake Banksiadale. The dam was built in 1971 in response to rapid population growth in Perth, Western Australia's capital city, and a resources boom in the Pilbara. The dam was officially opened in 1974. With a reservoir capacity of , it is the second-largest dam providing water to Perth. It has a catchment area of , a surface area of at full storage, and a reservoir length of . Dwellingup, Western Australia
Dwellingup is a town in Western Australia located in a timber and fruitgrowing area in the Darling Range east-south-east of Pinjarra. At the 2011 census, Dwellingup had a population of 383. Name Townsite lots were surveyed at this place by surveyor W.F. Rudall in 1909 after the Lands Department became aware that the site was planned as the terminus of the "Pinjarra-Marrinup Railway". Names suggested for the place by Rudall were "Dwellingerup" or "Marrinup", after nearby brooks, or "McLarty" after a local MLA who had been very active concerning the railway. Surveyor General H.F. Johnston chose "Dwellingupp" after being misinformed regarding the spelling of Dwellingerup Brook. Ignoring a suggestion from the Under Secretary to amend the name to "Dwellingdown", the Minister for Lands approved the name as "Dwellingup" in December 1909.
