South Dakota Department Of Education
The South Dakota Department of Education is the state education agency of South Dakota. It is headquartered in Pierre. The department manages teacher certification, school district accreditation and academic subject standards for South Dakota’s accredited schools organized in 149 School Districts. The department organizes and executes its state education plan according to the federal law known as the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 and manages the state school accountability with the Report Card. It also manages state aid to schools subject to state law. In 2015, South Dakota passed laws that created a new state aid formula for teachers compensation, special education and overhead support. To fund it, Governor Dennis Daugaard and the legislature raised sales taxes by a half a cent. Pierre ( ; lkt, Čhúŋkaške, lit=fort) is the capital city of South Dakota, United States, and the seat of Hughes County. The population was 14,091 at the 2020 census, making it the second-least populous US state capital after Montpelier, Vermont. It is South Dakota's ninth-most populous city. Dennis Daugaard
Dennis Martin Daugaard (born June 11, 1953) is an American attorney and politician who served as the 32nd governor of South Dakota from 2011 to 2019. A member of the Republican Party, he was the first chief executive of a U.S. state to be the child of deaf parents. Before being elected governor, he was a lawyer, banker, development director for a nonprofit organization; he also served as a state senator from 1997 to 2003 and the 37th lieutenant governor of South Dakota from 2003 to 2011. Kristi Lynn Noem (; née Arnold; born November 30, 1971) is an American politician serving as the 33rd governor of South Dakota since 2019. A member of the Republican Party, she was the U.S. representative for from 2011 to 2019 and a member of the South Dakota House of Representatives for the 6th district from 2007 to 2011. Noem was elected governor in 2018 and is South Dakota's first female governor. During the 2018 election, she was endorsed by then-president Donald Trump. KELOLAND
KELO-TV (channel 11) is a television station in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, United States, affiliated with CBS and MyNetworkTV. The station is owned by Nexstar Media Group, and maintains studios on Phillips Avenue in downtown Sioux Falls; its transmitter is located near Rowena, South Dakota. KELO-TV serves the largest viewing area of any station in the United States, covering all of South Dakota as well as parts of Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota and Wyoming. It calls its coverage area "KELOLAND" (with "KELO" pronounced to rhyme with "hello").
