South Coast League
The South Coast League of Professional Baseball (SCL), based in Conyers, Georgia, was a professional, independent baseball organization located in the Southeastern United States. It operated in cities not served by Major or Minor League Baseball teams and was not affiliated with either. It folded after its first season in 2007. History The league was formed in October 2006. In a press release in October, league Chief Executive Officer Jamie Toole, a former Carolina League executive with a number of teams, cited the desire to field professional baseball teams in municipalities that lacked access to professional baseball; however, the Aiken Foxhounds and Anderson Joes were based in metropolitan areas with an existing team in the MiLB-affiliated Class A South Atlantic League (the Augusta GreenJackets and Greenville Drive, respectively). Bradenton Juice
The Bradenton Juice were a short-lived minor league baseball team based in Bradenton, Florida in 2007. The team's name came from a "Name the Team" contest that included over 100 suggestions for the ball club. The club played in the South Coast League. The Juice's home game were held at Robert C. Wynn Baseball Field, which is located on the campus of Manatee Community College, now State College of Florida, Manatee–Sarasota State College of Florida, Manatee–Sarasota (SCF) is a public college with campuses in the Manatee and Sarasota counties of Florida. Wally Backman
Walter Wayne Backman (born September 22, 1959) is an American former Major League Baseball second baseman. He is best known for his time with the New York Mets from – and was a member of their 1986 World Series-winning team. He was also the former manager for the Las Vegas 51s, the Mets' AAA minor league team, from 2013 to 2016. Macon, Georgia
Macon ( ), officially Macon–Bibb County, is a consolidated city-county in the U.S. state of Georgia. Situated near the fall line of the Ocmulgee River, it is located southeast of Atlanta and lies near the geographic center of the state of Georgia—hence the city's nickname, "The Heart of Georgia". Charlotte County Redfish
The Charlotte County Redfish were a short-lived minor league baseball team based in Port Charlotte, Florida. The club was a member of the South Coast League and played their home games at Charlotte County Stadium. The club was slated to have 45 home games, however the Redfish played host to nine more when the Bradenton Juice were not permitted to use Robert C. Wynn Baseball Field after just four home dates. The Redfish began the season managed by Jackie Hernández, who had helped the Pittsburgh Pirates win the 1971 World Series. However Hernández was replaced after just managing 25 games for the Redfish. He was replaced by the team's hitting coach, former Detroit Tigers star Cecil Fielder. The Anderson Joes were a minor league baseball club that existed in 2007. The team was based in Anderson, South Carolina and was named after outfielder Shoeless Joe Jackson, who grew up in the local area. The team played as a member of the independent South Coast League. The Joes began the season with Desi Wilson, a former first baseman with the San Francisco Giants, serving as the team's manager. However, midway through the season, he left the position of manager and was activated as a player.
