South Carolina Highway 32 (1920s)
South Carolina Highway 32 (SC 32) was a state highway that existed in the southern part of Colleton County. It connected the Henderson and Jacksonboro areas. Route description SC 32 began at an intersection with SC 30 (now U.S. Route 17 Alternate (US 17 Alt.)) south-southwest of Henderson. It traveled to the east-southeast to Ritter Ritter (German for "knight") is a designation used as a title of nobility in German-speaking areas. Jacksonboro is an unincorporated community and census-designated place located in southeastern Colleton County, South Carolina, United States, along the west side of the Edisto River. Jacksonboro serves as a primary junction along U.S. Highway 17 between Charleston to the east and Beaufort to the southwest. Walterboro, the Colleton County seat, is to the northwest via South Carolina Highway 64. The population of Jacksonboro was 478 as of the 2010 census. Colleton County is in the Lowcountry region of the U.S. state of South Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 38,604. Its county seat is Walterboro. The county is named after Sir John Colleton, 1st Baronet, one of the eight Lords Proprietor of the Province of Carolina. After two previous incarnations, the current Colleton County was created in 1800. History In 1682, Colleton was created as one of the three original proprietary counties, located in the southwestern coastal portion of the new South Carolina Colony and bordering on the Combahee River. South Carolina Highway 30 (SC 30, also known as the James Island Expressway or the James Island Connector) is a freeway in Charleston, South Carolina. The freeway travels from SC 171 on James Island to U.S. Route 17 (US 17) in downtown Charleston. Route description SC 30 begins at SC 171 on James Island at exit 3. The interchange consists of a half-diamond interchange. From there, the highway runs northeast, and has two interchanges south of the Ashley River crossing. South Carolina Highway 64 (SC 64) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of South Carolina. It serves the cities of Barnwell and Walterboro while also providing a direct route to Charleston, via U.S. Route 17 (US 17). Route description History SC 64 was established around 1926 as a new primary routing from SC 28 near Ellenton, to SC 6/ SC 301 near Ruffin.
