Jasper County is the southernmost county in the U.S. state of South Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 28,791. Its county seat is Ridgeland and its largest city is Hardeeville. The county was formed in 1912 from portions of Hampton County and Beaufort County. Jasper County is included in the Hilton Head Island–Bluffton, SC Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located in the Lowcountry region of the state. For several decades, in contrast to neighboring Beaufort County, Jasper was one of the poorest counties in the state. Hampton County is a rural county located in the U.S. state of South Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 18,561. Its county seat is Hampton. It was named for Confederate Civil War general Wade Hampton, who in the late 1870s, with the ending of Reconstruction, was elected as governor of South Carolina. The county includes two small urban clusters: Hampton (2022 Est. Pop. 2,463) and Estill (1,815). History The county is named for Wade Hampton III, one of the country's leading slaveowners and a Lieutenant General for the Confederacy during the American Civil War. State Route 119 (SR 119) is an state highway that runs south-to-north in the east-central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It runs from Riceboro to the Hinesville – Fort Stewart metropolitan area and curves to the northeast, through Pembroke and Springfield, and enters South Carolina north of Clyo, where the roadway continues as South Carolina Highway 119. Route description SR 119 begins at an intersection with US 17/ SR 25 (Ocean Highway) in Riceboro, in Liberty County. It heads west to Walthourville, where it intersects US 84/ SR 38 (Oglethorpe Highway).
