South Airlines ( ua, Південні авіалінії, russian: Южные авиалинии) was a charter airline based in Odessa, Ukraine. History The airline was registered in 1999 in Odessa, Ukraine. In 2000, the company was certified by the State Aviation Service of Ukraine. South Airlines operated scheduled and charter flights. In the beginning, the company operated with 6 types of aircraft: Antonov An-24, Antonov An-30, Antonov An-140, Yakovlev Yak-40, Let L-410 Turbolet and Tupolev Tu-134. The airline's license was revoked by the aviation authority in February 2013. Antonov An-148
The Antonov An-148 ( ua, Антонов Ан-148) is a regional jet designed and built by Antonov of Ukraine. Development of the aircraft was started in the 1990s, and its maiden flight took place on 17 December 2004. The aircraft completed its certification programme on 26 February 2007. The An-148 has a maximum range of and is able to carry 68–85 passengers, depending on the configuration. The Antonov An-158 is a stretched fuselage version of the aircraft, accommodating up to 100 passengers. Following a crash in February 2018, all An-148 and An-158 in Russia were grounded by the Russian Ministry of Transport. In addition, Cubana grounded its An-158 fleet as of May 2018 due to several technical issues with the aircraft. On 13 February 2013, a Ukrainian Antonov An-24 passenger aircraft operating South Airlines flight 8971 crashed on landing at Donetsk International Airport, Ukraine, killing 5 of the 52 people on board. The Yakovlev Yak-42 (russian: Яковлев Як-42; NATO reporting name: "Clobber") is a 100/120-seat three-engined mid-range passenger jet developed in the mid 1970s to replace the technically obsolete Tupolev Tu-134. The Saab 340 is a Swedish twin-engine turboprop aircraft designed and initially produced by Saab AB and Fairchild Aircraft.
