Sourcefabric
Sourcefabric is a Czech not-for-profit organisation that develops open source software for independent news media organisations. It is based in Prague, Czech Republic, with branches in Berlin, Germany and Toronto, Canada. Sourcefabric was spun off from the Media Development Investment Fund's Campware project in April 2010. Sourcefabric is an affiliate member of the Open Source Initiative. Campcaster
Airtime is a radio management application for remote broadcast automation (via web-based scheduler), and program exchange between radio stations. Airtime was developed and released as free and open-source software, subject to the requirements of the GNU General Public License until it was changed to GNU Affero General Public License. History The initial concept for Airtime, originally named LiveSupport, and then Campcaster was developed in 2003 under GPL-2.0-or-later by Micz Flor, a German new-media developer. The concept was further developed by Ákos Maróy, a software developer and then-member of Tilos Radio, Robert Klajn, a radio producer at Radio B92, and Douglas Arellanes and Sava Tatić from the Media Development Loan Fund (MDLF). Newscoop
Newscoop (formerly Campsite) is a free software, free and open-source software, open source multilingual content management system for news websites. Its localizable user interface was built with journalists, editors and publishers in mind, rather than computer experts, and it can be configured to suit different profiles of end users. Newscoop follows a newspaper publishing model, so it structures sites by default as Publications, Issues, Sections and Articles, rather than nodes or objects. Newscoop is intended for medium-to-large-size online news publications, but it can be used to manage content for smaller sites too. Media Development Investment Fund (MDIF), formerly Media Development Loan Fund, is a New York-registered non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and mission-driven investment fund that provides low-cost financing to independent news and information businesses in challenging environments, mostly in countries with a history of media oppression. As one of the United States–based groups involved in direct media development, it specializes in impact investing and provides affordable debt, equity and quasi-equity financing to help journalists build sustainable businesses around professional, responsible, quality journalism. Booktype
Booktype is a free and open source software for authoring, collaborating, editing, and publishing books to PDF, ePub, .mobi, and HTML formats. It was launched by Sourcefabric in February 2012 when Booktype evolved from the Booki software, which powers FLOSS Manuals. In March 2015 it was announced that Amnesty International was using a pre-release version of Booktype 2.0 to publish its Annual Report on the state of human rights, in multiple languages. Booktype interface localizations are crowd-sourced from volunteers in a Transifex project. While Booktype is open source software, it also exports books to the proprietary desktop publishing software Adobe InDesign via the ICML markup language. West Africa Democracy Radio
West Africa Democracy Radio (WADR) is a trans-territorial, sub-regional broadcaster based in Dakar, Senegal. WADR is a project of the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) set up in 2003 to protect and defend the ideals of democratic and open societies by disseminating development information through a network of community radios in the West African sub-region. The WADR network comprises nearly 40 partner radios in eight West African countries and a chain of correspondents in ten countries in the region. WADR broadcasts in French and English on 94.9 FM in Dakar, via satellite on Astra 4A to sub-Saharan Africa, and streams to the African diaspora from its website.
