Sounds Like Canada
''Sounds Like Canada'' was a Canadian radio program, which aired weekday mornings on CBC Radio One from 2002 to 2008. Until the end of May 2008, the program was hosted by the award-winning broadcaster Shelagh Rogers, and in the summers by a rotating series of guest hosts. The program was broadcast from Vancouver, and aired programming which covered cultural and human interest stories relevant to Canadians. Jian Ghomeshi, Jim Brown, Rick Cluff, Kevin Sylvester, Kathryn Gretsinger and Bill Richardson acted as guest hosts. The show first aired in 2002, when Radio One management split its former morning program, '' This Morning'', into two new programs: '' The Current'' took over the news portion of ''This Morning'''s programming, and ''Sounds Like Canada'' looked at the impact of the news on people. Seven Wonders Of Canada
The Seven Wonders of Canada was a 2007 competition sponsored by CBC Television's '' The National'' and CBC Radio One's ''Sounds Like Canada''. They sought to determine Canada's "seven wonders" by receiving nominations from viewers, and then from on-line voting of the short list. After the vote, a panel of judges, Ra McGuire, Roy MacGregor and Roberta L. Jamieson, picked the winners based on geographic and poetic criteria. Their seven picks were revealed on '' The National'' on June 7, 2007. The Seven Wonders as chosen by Canada were the Sleeping Giant, Niagara Falls, the Bay of Fundy, Nahanni National Park Reserve, the Northern Lights, the Rockies, and the Cabot Trail. ''q with Tom Power'' (previously known as ''q with Jian Ghomeshi'') is a Canadian arts magazine show produced by and airing on CBC Radio One, with syndication to public radio stations in the United States through Public Radio Exchange. The program mainly features interviews with prominent cultural and entertainment figures, though subjects and interviewees also deal with broader cultural topics such as their social, political and business aspects, as well as weekly panels on television/film and music on Mondays and Fridays respectively. It airs weekdays starting at 8:37 a.m. local time and runs until 10 a.m., and features interview sessions and radio documentaries that typically take up a half hour each. History The program premiered in 2002, and was hosted from its inception by investigative journalist Anna Maria Tremonti. Tremonti retired from the program in June 2019. Laura Lynch served as interim host until the end of 2019, and Matt Galloway took over as the program's new permanent host effective January 6, 2020. During the COVID-19 pandemic until May 15, 2020, ''The Current's'' runtime was extended to the rest of the morning for most of the nation to cover that issue, replacing '' Q'' (although it still had its shorter evening broadcast slot) and the various half-hour 11:30 AM shows with the host of the former show, Tom Power appearing for selected arts stories related to the pandemic. Thomas Homer Dixon
Thomas Homer-Dixon (born 1956) is a Canadian political scientist and author who researches threats to global security. He is the founder and Executive Director of the Cascade Institute at Royal Roads University in Victoria, British Columbia. He is the author of seven books, the most recent being ''Commanding Hope: The Power We Have to Renew a World in Peril''.
